AlexKIDD #1 Posted May 31, 2005 I'm a big pinball fan and I play a lot of midnite magic, pinball(nes),alien and devils crush for turbo but I havn't bought a new pinball game in a long time. The last one would probably be pokemon pinball for gbc. I've noticed that there is a game called pure pinball for xbox, one called pinball hall of fame for cube and both mario and house of the dead pinball games for gba. Has anyone played any of these games and how are they? Or are there any other newer pinball games you guys recommend?
SteveW #2 Posted May 31, 2005 I bought Pinball Hall of Fame, and I only played it for about half an hour. It's got a nice selection of 7 vintage tables from Gottlieb's past, but most aren't all that fun. They were emulated fantastically, it's just ..... they didn't select the best tables. They should have doubled or tripled the amount of tables, then it would have been better. Pure Pinball looks nice, but the hot babes on the cover just seems sad. They've got to use T&A just to get modern gamers to play a pinball game. Kind of like that Xbox fishing game, with the bimbo on the cover. Modern game playing teenagers have to be tricked into playing a good, time tested genre.
+Cobra Kai #3 Posted May 31, 2005 Yeah I also bought Pinball Hall Of Fame Gottlieb Collection...and I must say the tables are a huge disappointment. The pinball action itself is fantastic, but they couldn't have picked worse tables to showcase what Gottlieb did....even though in reality...Gottlieb probably had the worst selection overall in the pinball industry anyway IMO. There needs to be a Williams hall of fame, or Data East....can't go wrong with those. If you have a Jaguar you must get the two pinball titles for that...those are still my favorite pinball games of all time, Ruiner Pinball and Pinball Fantasies. SteveW #4 Posted May 31, 2005 I remember reading a really bad review about Pinball Fantasies on the Amiga, that's why I never picked up the Jag version. I think the reviewer gave it a 12% out of 100. But Ruiner Pinball is pretty good. It's the kind of video pinball that I like, taking advantage of the technology to link a couple of playfields side by side. It reminded me of Alien Crush on the Turbographx-16, with the little side levels.

Pinball Fantasies emulates real pinball very well...if you like a good pinball sim, then you'll surely enjoy the mechanics of PF. I would give it a grade in the %80 range....certainly not a bottom of the barrel game, that %12 is a bullshit score.
SteveW #6 Posted May 31, 2005 Maybe I'm remembering a different game score. Those UK Amiga magazines didn't pull too many punches when it came to game reviews. I guess I need to track down a copy of Pinball Fantasies now.

It's the sequel to Pinball Dreams(amiga/SNES)...don't know if you are familiar with that one.
Mindfield #8 Posted June 1, 2005 (edited) I love pinballers. The last one I really liked was probably Hyper 3D Pinball on the PC. Pretty dated by today's standards but still a well done game. Oh, and Balls of Steel, also for PC. Love the Duke Nukem table. :-) If you like video pinballers, probably the most fascinating thing to check out is Visual Pinball. It's a pinball emulator for PC. (Yes, an emulator) The tables are re-created (usually with lovingly accurate detail) and the game logic ICs and stuff are all actually emulated. There are a ton of great tables already existing for it -- lotsa fun if you wanna see real arcade pinballers emulated on the PC. You need a PC that's at least approaching mid-range tho -- 1.5-2GHz or so to get the full benefit. Worth it tho. z28in82 #10 Posted June 1, 2005 Pure Pinball = utter garbage Pinball of the dead = not bad, solid lil gba game Mario pinball = more gimic than pinball but would do in a pinch pac man pinball = just came out and haven't had a chance to play or review yet There were 2 decent pinballers for the Saturn, Pure Pinball and Hyper 3-D Pinball, IMHO
shep #11 Posted June 1, 2005 I think that the DS' Metroid Pinball looks promising! Though I have always been a fan of Pinball Quest for NES
