tmont #3 Posted June 3, 2005 My brother bought a gameboy color for like $2 at a garage sale. It came with one game; I don't remember the name, but it was some kind of WWII game, where you blow up tanks and stuff. The resolution was kind of crappy, so I couldn't really see what was going on. Anyway, we noticed that a lot of the words were spelled wrong, and we thought it was just crappy programming. Then we finally realized the entire game was in German! Apparently, the mispelled words were not mispelled, just in German. Needless to say, we blamed our ignorance on the poor resolution.

SteveW #6 Posted June 4, 2005 I bought a second Neo Geo Pocket Color at Fry's Electronics last week, and the instructions included with it is entirely in Japanese. That was a little strange to me. I thought that these re-issued Neo Geo Pocket Colors were the recalled American releases that have been sitting in warehouses in Japan for years. Well, I only played it once. That game straight up sucked!
Jess Ragan #8 Posted June 4, 2005 I can't think of any Japanese games that I purchased by accident. I try to buy 'em on purpose! There were, oddly enough, a few Japanese Game Gear titles that I found at K-Mart, and in pawn shops. One of these was Ninku Hiroyuki, which was a very excellent clone of Pengo; far better than the one Sega released for the Game Gear in the States. I wish I had bought the game, because it was fantastic, and to this day nobody's dumped it for use with emulators like Meka. JR

Picked it up for about $5 used at some kinda warehouse closeouts store or something. Had it for several years now (since 1999). I would dump it for you but I don't know how to do that personally. I've got 2 of the original boxed ones. Both of them came with a pile of manuals, one for each language they released it in. I think the only real localization that went on was the box. There was only one instruction manual (just a poster sized folded up piece of paper). I really only bought it for Metal Slug and Pac-Man. For $49, I couldn't pass it up. I've been wondering that for a while.
SteveW #13 Posted June 11, 2005 Nope, no manuals for games. I guess they think that you can just look it up online. There's a web site on the package that has just about all the games that ever came out for it. Most are Japanese issued, so I don't know if they would work in English if that's selected in the Pocket Color's preferences menu. I wish I could remember the name of the site. As I understand things, inserteing a japanese cart into a system set to english will, depending on game: A. play the english version(much like it's big brother, the NeoGeo Pocket can contain multiple versions of a game in one set of ROMs), or... B. play the game in japanese(bigger games, such as RPGs, only include one set of text to conserve space).
