:( What happened to this 2tittles?

I also saw information about Word Class Leaderboard. It's still in development? If so, who is the responsible? Any screens?

Out Run: Anyone begining the conversion?

Other games around there?

Many, many questions... Who has the answers?

Thanks!...

i think TMR has finished dev of reaxion and is waiting for final mastering on tape for a release by cronosoft...

bubble bobble do not know, same goes to leaderboard... i guess that the coders are like me... playing little bit around with code but to finishing a game is something completly different... so that's why i like TMR as he has the ability to really finish a project...

Yup, since it's got about a ten minute loading time of tape Sack's knocking up some music so it's not boring as 'eck waiting for the load. =-)

Well.. erm, i was reliably informed when i asked here that there wasn't a software-based turbo? Bit late for a change of mind at this point, since we've been fiddling with this for a while now... =-)

Nah - all the best loading tunes are about 3 minutes, so what would you recommend with regards to a turbo loader?

tmr... just let it be... ;) but there are methods by software to increase the 600 baud cassette sio.... or should be...

You can quite easily use 900 baud rate to save to tape so that will help with the loading time. All you need to do is set the baud rate bits to 900 when making your cassette saver routine.

I'm a fan of the whole tape nostalgia thing, as I got myself a 1010 and recently a 410 with my 800 and I just lost a bid on an XC-12, but hope to get one soon. So some new software for tape sounds very cool, but why is this game (Reaxion)being done on tape in the first place instead of disk or cart? Is it purely for the music and "nostalgia" aspects?

It is easy to increase the tape SIO speed by software. And for example, Omnimon, has a built-in option for this. But doing this reliably is extremely difficult. They key point is whether you’ll load the tape using the same recorder or not.

I made a software Turbo many years ago. What I learned is that it is not worth to increase the speed if you can’t increase the reliability of the whole SIO tape system. What’s the point of increasing the speed by say, a 25% if loading will fail twice as normal.

So I actually made a completely different system with a “retrying” feature. If loading failed, you could rewind the tape a bit, just before the "error", and continue the loading (assuming it was a soft error that a retry could fix).

It's being released on tape by Cronosoft (along with the C64 version and forthcoming Plus/4 and Spectrum versions) and, after a short period, it'll be out as an XEX on the Cosine website - but i'm a person of my word, i promised Simon a head start on the tape sales so it needs to go out first.

Sorry, this is the first I'd heard of Reaxion personally, as I was out of the 8-bit loop for about a year while my A8 was in storage, so you answer didn't really answer my question. Maybe you can point me to a web site with all the info?

www.cronosoft.co.uk

www.cosine.org.uk

and then look at jason's pages...

Direct link for my personal site is www.tmr.cosine.org.uk and it's in the "projects" section for the moment, although i may not have updated it since i'm a tad scatterbrained at the best of times and most of the static pages need a rewrite; the cover art renders in particular, there's one for ViColumn to add and most of 'em are written in future tense when what was said came to pass a while ago... Oh, Lunar Blitz A8 is done bar the music and i have a couple of half started projects waiting for my attention too including a port of ViColumn as soon as i can get my head around a fast way to deal with the tiles.

The reason for going to tape rather than cartridge or disk is twofold; one reason is that i'm in the U.K. and that was our primary market for just about everything 8bit back in the day (and Cronosoft is about reliving those memories with new games) and the other is that nobody else is doing it so it seemed like a good idea at the time. i'm also not sure Simon has a disk-based Atari to handle duplication at the moment, again due to the heavy tape bias of the U.K. market - my own 800XL is tape based, which is why it's off the road - deck broked.

I went to all those sites, and I failed to see anything to do with the

Atari 8-bit, even in the projects section, it was all sinclair and C64 stuff I saw. I'll look again though...

Ok, on your direct link under the "projects" I found the one-line mention of it being ported from the C64 version, but that certainly answers NO questions except that it is being ported...is there some place with REAL info and possibly some screen shots and stuff about it being on tape and this music on tape, etc?!? Never mind, I clicked on the name and found the info, the first time I went there my arrow didn't highlite it as a "clickable."

Then it's a naughty arrow and needs it's botty smacked! =-)

There's a few other projects in early development, but i tend to keep stuff back until it's at least 50% done before i add it to the site - that said, one or two projects shot through to 95% so fast i didn't bother adding 'em at all, like ViColumn... =-)
