Trip_Cannon #1 Posted June 8, 2005 Has anybody here actually completed one of those websites that state they will give you a free PSP, Nintendo DS, PS2, Xbox, etc.? Did it work?
n8littlefield #2 Posted June 8, 2005 I did. I got my DS that way. I'm also 1 offer away from an Xbox - but I need to wait until after my trip to Vegas do to the last offer (since I'll likely have to pay for shipping on whatever trial I do, I can't waste my gambling money now). Famicoman #3 Posted June 8, 2005 It works with ipods, and supposevly some of theese sites are related so it should work.
Trip_Cannon #4 Posted June 9, 2005 I see them all over the place anymore. It just seems too good to be true or there's a hook of some sort. I've seen a bunch now for the Xbox 360 already!

dinovelvet #6 Posted June 9, 2005 Yeah how exactly do these sites work? You have to sign up for all kinds of stuff, and also refer other people to the site, or something...?
NintendoDieScreaming #7 Posted June 9, 2005 I have no idea how these things work. If you can use fake names, I'll SO be in business

n8littlefield #9 Posted June 9, 2005 The one that I did required me to complete 4 offers myself. The first offer I did was a free AOL trial - I cancelled it after 10 days or so and was never charged a penny. The second was AOL music - same thing. The third was a free trial of blockbuster rentals, tried it, cancelled w/in the trial, again no charge. The forth was a free trial pack of tooth whittener, I cancelled it before it shipped and didn't have to pay the $7 shipping it should have cost. About 1 month later, all showed complete, I printed out a voucher and mailed it to Florida. 1 month after that - my $150 check for my DS arrived. The thing you have to watch for is that you see if they require you to just do a trial or if you have to remain a member afterwards. The one I'm doing now for the Xbox required me to stay a member for one of the offers, I didn't notice that, so I'm still 1 offer away. I'm doing a free disc from Video Professor for that one next month, just pay for shipping.

cyberneticimplant #11 Posted June 9, 2005 You do trials? I thought they sell your personal information to SPAM companies.
sku_u #12 Posted June 9, 2005 You do trials? I thought they sell your personal information to SPAM companies. 871264[/snapback] They definitely do. I tried one of these out and used a spam account I set up specifically for it. First of all, they make it extremely difficult to cancel the "free trials" and if you don't read the fine print can and will end up owing 2 to 3 times what the item you want is worth. Secondly, I purposely misspelled my name in a specific way to see how much spam and junk mail I'd get. I received on average 500 emails a day and about 100 pieces of junk mail a week (I've since moved and added my name to the junk mail block list). I gave a fake phone number, so I don't know how many telemarketing calls I got. Thirdly, I used a PC to set this up. Most of those sites' "offers" add trojan horses to your computer when you click on them. Was it worth the hassle? Absolutely not!!! @N8littlefield--If I were you, I'd pull my credit reports (all three) to make sure there's nothing weird on them as that's one way these "offers" get to you. They'll add unpaid money (like the $7.00 shipping from the cancellation + up to 35% interest) and when you go to buy a house get stuck paying off debts you shouldn't have to. n8littlefield #13 Posted June 9, 2005 Well, I'm not saying they are perfect, but I'm not too worried about my credit. My credit is f'd already! But seriously, the offers I did, with the exception of the tooth whittener were all on the secure websites for very trustable companies, AOL, Blockbuster, eFax (my new one). I did mine by following a link in a google ad, the site I used to check status was incentiverewardcenter.com. I won't mention the one I'm doing now, just because I'm not completed so I can't vouch for it yet.
Trip_Cannon #14 Posted June 9, 2005 I've seen literally hundreds of these offers around by e-mail or advertisements on websites. Not just for videogames, but for gift certificates, dinners, gasoline, etc. all the way up into the thousands of dollars!! If it were all legit it'd seem like somebody could make a pretty decent living just completing offers all day.
Hydian #15 Posted June 9, 2005 They make referral money for everything you sign up for. They make money because the cost to send you an ipod or Xbox is less than what they make, plus there are people who invariably don't do enough trials and they are pure profit. I think it was Maximum PC that did a blurb about it.
