# of Genesis Games

How many games roughly were produced for the Genesis in the states? My Collection is nearing 200 and I just wondered how many games there were actually produced.

I never counted them but there is a list of every genesis release on www.sega-16.com.

The Digital Press guide lists 706 North American releases, so it looks like you've got quite a ways to go.

Well, all classic game systems and computers really. Even "lesser" systems like the Microvision and Studio 2 deserve to be remembered.

as far as third party sports (i'm ignoring boxing and racing games but they aren't the bulk I'm also ignoring a few others like arch rivals)

so between those it's over 80 and other 3rd parties released sports games

my genisis box from '95 says "over 500 games" on the back, but i guess that includes all the crappy sports stuff.

dont ge me wrong, i love my genny, but it is so sad to see nothing but sports games when i go game hunting

Yeah, I know that one... but it is still one of the least expensive machines to collect for and you stand a good chance of picking up complete games for it too. I mean really, some of my best 'wild' finds was the Castlevania Bloodlines, and Dune complete and in very good shape; $1 each. Typically, I'll suck up anything Genesis that I don't already have and isn't sports. Except for golf, racing, and boxing. If I ever win the battle against the 2600 stacks, I can again take up arms on my Genesis and N-64 piles. There was a time when the 64 stack was nil... that time has long since passed.
