albaki
I was just looking at the 2600 section on atari age and they seem to offer Cartidge shells board etc. would this be available for the jag the boards would be no problem to make as the drawings for them are on the ATARI HQ cd And the roms should not be a problem at all. Any comments on this matter welcome as not every jag collector has a cdrom unit and smaller games could be released. this would stirr up code development for sure Regards, Albaki :!:
justclaws
Hello, I was just looking at the 2600 section on atari age and they seem to offer Cartidge shells board etc. would this be available for the jag the boards would be no problem to make as the drawings for them are on the ATARI HQ cd And the roms should not be a problem at all. Any comments on this matter welcome as not every jag collector has a cdrom unit and smaller games could be released. this would stirr up code development for sure I would love to see availability of shells and boards which support either 1MB or2MB ROM sets. I think it's a case of chicken and egg though. There are not any really great homebrew games created that need to be on ROM, and so there is no demand for the shells and ROMs. However, without them, everybody just continues to develop for RAM use, since CD encryption found, for CD loading. The cost of CDs of course is dramatically lower than a cartridge in any case... However, Force Design/3D Stooges have said that their games will only be sold on cartridge, (and there are some prototype game ROM images floating around but they are generally not freeware), and so there is for sure demand. The problem I think is also cost. Some Jaguar fans seem still to think that it's going to be practical to create Jaguar games on cartridge and sell them like AtariAge does for the 2600 homebrew scene, for very low prices, but there is a world of difference between the shell design, the circuit board, and of course principally the cost of 1 or 2MB of ROM, compared to 2K or 4K ROM. Did I make it clear that I'd welcome availability? B&C do have some available I think, however, but the prices are high, reflecting the limited stocks left now. Cheers, JustClaws. Starcat
Hi! Personally I prefer CD dev. However if 1 or 2 MB carts were available for a low price and if somebody offered a service to burn the roms and assemble the carts, I could imagine very well to use them myself as well. At least for smaller projects. Regards, Lars.
