But anyway... kinda surprised that one went as high as it did. Lots have been going pretty cheap the last few weeks (like, half what that one went for).

The real question should be "What are the most bids any item has recieved from DIFFERENT users have you seen?". The item you have listed above has most of its bids from one user. And yes, Mindfield is correct... this is the exact reason why there is sniping, as the end of the auction foretells.
