Memory track cart, do we really need it?

Recommended Posts

I have the impression (I can be wrong) that not a lot of games are using the memory track cart.So which ones do?

that would really help me to know if I "need" to buy it or not....

Let's see...

First off, only CD games need the cart, since the cart games do store the data themselves.

Second, NOT ALL CD games need the cart, since some of them don't save anything :(

BlueLighting YES

Highlander YES

Braindead 13 YES, BUT IT DOESN'T WORK :(

Primal Rage YES (IIRC) but it anyway isn't that useful

SpaceAce & Dragon's Lair NO

Hoverstrike YES

Battlemorph YES

World Tour Racing NO

Vid Grid YES

What else? ...

Hello!

Painter (I) doesn't use the MemoryTrack (it uses a Password-system).

I think the releases of Starcat use (or will use) the MT, also all of my own games.

Regards

Matthias

Hi !

Right. Eerievale will use the MT for sure. Other future releases will probably use it as well.

Regards, Lars.

IS II yes

Myst yes

Baldies yes

You don't need the Memory Track for Baldies or Myst, so it's strictly optional for those (besides, rumor says it takes up too much space for Baldies).

Something like Highlander would be hard to complete without it, but you can beat Blue Lightning without it (I did, once) although it'd take half a day.

Braindead 13 is just plain buggy (although an interesting game). I got frustrated and had to look up a walkthrough after a few crashes (and because I couldn't find the elevator...stupid mirrored "get the eye" rooms).

Yes, Baldies takes up a lot of space, more then any other cdgame

In the Myst manual, it says that the password feature doesn't save all the settings, like switches and stuff, while the memorytrack saves the whole lot of it

So in my opinion the memorytrack is recommended for playing Myst

Walter_J64bit, I see you have a Braindead13 savegame on your cart

So, does the savegame feature of this game work or not?

According to Paolo's post, it doesn't

Paolo is right and wrong the save game option only seem to work if you don't cut off the jag

...And I discovered it the very first day I had the game: started at half-evening, saving every now and then without turning the Jag off, then stopped playing at 4, maybe 5 in the morning, had a few hours rest, then woke up, had breakfast, and then I learnt the lesson :(
