Wester #1 Posted June 21, 2005 I recently picked up a CED player with some movies and I think it is going to be my new collectable. Here is the problem, the player has seen better days, I can't get it to read the disc, I think it just needs a replacement stylus. If anyone has one, or a player they don't want anymore please let me know. I don't have much as far as cash but I have games, maybe some consoles, or even some CED's I'm not interested in to trade. I know it's a longshot but I have to try. Thanks, Wes
nintendo #2 Posted June 23, 2005 What games/consoles are you willing to trade? I think I have an extra stylus, but what model CED player do you have?
Wester #3 Posted June 23, 2005 I have a SGT200 I believe the stylus model number is 149000. I'll have to look but as far as consoles go I have a couple of snes ( one normal and one mini), Genesis, NES, maybe a 2600 or two. Games I'd have to look at I know I have a boxed Dr. Mario for NES, and various 2600, Intelly, and NES games.
Lost Monkey #4 Posted June 23, 2005 Another problem these machines often have is a worn belt... I have one where the arm just doesn't move the stylus back and forth without a little help...

jdrew #6 Posted June 23, 2005 This is why CED died out... 879252 I hate to be a party-pooper, but I have to agree. I won a flaky CED player on eBay and tried to fix it. I read about CED troubleshooting at cedmagic.com - it was depressing. I ended up buying a working player at a local thrift store (an excellent find, forthcoming complaints aside). Now I've accumulated 30-or-so movies, and I've watched four or five. The player is loud, the picture is inconsistent (maybe the jumps and stutters are due to dirty discs?), and I have to worry that discs I buy on eBay will be A) expensive to ship, and B) worn out (Star Wars). I know that, technically, the quality is supposed to be better than VHS, but it doesn't really seem that way in person. I still buy good CEDs when they turn up, but I've moved on to laserdiscs for the most part. The picture is great, the players have fancy outputs, and the library of titles is huge. However, if you're looking for any specific CEDs, PM me a list (anyone). I've come across at least four large lots within the past year. I like to think it's because I'm in Indianapolis, but I don't know. Anyway, I'll be glad to keep an eye out on behalf of the CED faithful.
Wester #7 Posted June 23, 2005 The CED thing is just something new to collect for me. I happen to have found one with some movies at SA and it brought back memories of when I was a kid. I do still have a LD player but the CED seems to go better with classic gaming collecting, for me anyway. jdrew, thanks for the offer. Like you said though, shipping is the killer. How much do discs go for where you are?

I completely understand, I almost started collecting them myself because they were obscure, odd, and just screamed 80's. The main thing that stopped me (other than no movies past 1983-84) was that they actually wear out! With a little luck, my laserdiscs will last my entire life time (assuming they haven't already started to show signs of rot). I'd guess that in the next 5-10 years almost all CED's will be unwatchable. Tempest
jdrew #9 Posted June 23, 2005 jdrew, thanks for the offer. Like you said though, shipping is the killer. How much do discs go for where you are? 879395 I've run across them at Goodwill and flea markets for $1 - $6. The $6 CEDs (at Goodwill, of course) usually don't sell very quickly, even on "50% off day". There are 40-some still at the GW near my house, they're $5.99, but 50% off this week. Many of the CEDs are still wrapped in cellophane.
nintendo #10 Posted June 24, 2005 My dad has the CED player but I've bought some CED discs for myself just because of the cool art/picture on the casing. I have a Spider-Man (old animated 70's cartoon) and Fire and Ice (animated movie) CED that are worth keeping just because of the cool artwork. You can also find some animation compilations like Mighty Mouse/Heckle Jeckle, Woody Woodpecker that aren't shown anymore on TV. An old TV repair shop here used to have a few new-in-box players a few years ago, but I don't know if they do now, or how much they cost.
