BurgertimeBoy #1 Posted February 24, 2002 I just got my CD of Revenge of the 80's, 25 Classic Arcade Games, and it's great! Just like I remembered them all. If's funny because many of the games I am more familar with the 2600 adaptations that I played than the actual arcade game it was based on. I love it so much I want to buy the 200 Classic Arcade Games CD next. If you want to play the games on the "200 Classic Arcade Games" CD, just go to www.mame.net and download the latest version of MAME for your computer, and then go to mame.dk and download the ROMs for the games you want to play. Uncle Duke #6 Posted February 25, 2002 Mame.dk just shut down... No more good Roms, now Im gonna have to go hunting around the net for a new good site. Most sites have like only 4 games at a time. And usually they arent very good. BTW Why cant I find a rom with a working sound version of the arcade War of the Worlds? Did the arcade originally have sound? I was probably too computer illiterate to figure it out. I found this pirate CD on ebay. I don't want to get anyone in trouble. Normal procedure would be removing the ROMs owned by that particular owner and keeping the rest online, or? Just like Holmes recently did with all the Crystal something games... Albert #19 Posted February 26, 2002 I doubt it was the IDSA, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of the companies with a large stockpile of arcade titles under their belt, like Infogrames. I'm guessing that the folks at make.dk decided they didn't want to fight one battle after another with the ROMs, and this is the straw that broke the camel's back. Just like we run AtariAge for fun, I'm sure the same is true for mame.dk. It's not worth risking their personal lives for a website like mame.dk, where if they didn't take the roms down they might get sued. Sure, they could have taken down just the ROMs for the one company who complained. But maybe they'll get another complaint a few months down the road, then they'll have to take those ROMs down also. They probably didn't want to go through all the hassle, especially given that they're a pretty high profile site. Personally I'm surprised it lasted this long. But I wouldn't worry too much, MAME is extraordinarily popular and I can't imagine it'll ever become impossible to find arcade ROMs to play. ..Al [ 02-26-2002: Message edited by: Albert ] Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Their database was fast, had some great descriptions, and listed all the available variants all within a clean and well organized site. I don't want to spend extra time hunting around several websites to get my ROMS. With Mame.dk, it was all there for you in one nice convenient place with speedy updates and downloads. That does open up a can of worms, though, doesn't it? Are titles like "Mr. Do" and "Moon Patrol" (in their original forms, of course) still "valuable" enough to warrant a bunch of lawsuits.
