At least when you consider Midway/Williams/Atari games, they are.

 

Games like these are now going through another round of emulation and ports on the new systems. GBA in particular.

BTW: Anybody remember 'Elite Systems'? They ported games like Ghosts'n' Goblins, Buggy Boy, Ikari Warriors, etc... to home-computers like the C64, Speccy, Amstrad & co. - Well, they're back & their first project is gonna be a 'Bomb Jack' trilogy for the GBA.
