nester #1 Posted July 2, 2005 Hey, what do you think is the most underrated Nintendo game? My vote goes to The Guardian Legend. I still think it's one of the best games on the whole system. I love the combination RPG/Shooting style. There's nothing else like it that I've ever played.
JB #2 Posted July 2, 2005 TGL's great. Except forms oem major flicker issues on some bosses. Also worth nominating: the action-adventure title Blaster Master and the platform shooter Metal Storm. (interesting technical note: Metal Storm generates 3 independant background layers in software for parallax scrolling to create the illusion of depth, which was one of the major features the SNES and Genesis had over the NES). Pinball Wizzard #3 Posted July 2, 2005 Hmm... Guardian Legend is rated wery high NOW by retrogamers. My input will be Friday the 13th. It actually shocks while youy play it alone. And it also had parallax scrolling speaking about technical side. The other side is the game`s conception which makes it difficult to put the game in some genre. Yeah Guardian legend is a great game that is seriously underrated thought it is a tough one to beat. Probably so underrated because of Broderbunds' reputation for the other junk that they have made. Lauren Tyler #5 Posted July 3, 2005 Nightmare on Elm Street - Sure it was rather difficult, but if you got the hang of it, it was pretty fun. Slalom - There weren't many winter sports games on the NES, and Slalom really gave you that feeling of speed. Friday the 13th - Sure very few people liked it, but it had a lot of randomness to it, and it was actually kind of fun, if not repetitive. Someone had once talked with me about an enhanced version for the SNES, and I think that would be interesting.

Maybe that's the reason the game turned out to be so good.
blastermaster #7 Posted July 3, 2005 I would say blaster master! I LOVE that game. its got so much to offer. years before its time! although it does slow down sometimes. still my vote goes for blaster master! ~Jon
nester #8 Posted July 3, 2005 I don't know why everybody complains about Broderbund. With the exception of Deadly Towers and Legacy of the Wizard, their games were quite good. Especially Battle of Olympus and Load Runner. Also, according to allgame.com they didn't develop any of the games they released for NES. Also, they were one of the oldest third party developers for NES. I know I can't find any that are older, although there probably is one.
Radio F Software #9 Posted July 3, 2005 One of my personal sleeper hits is M.C. Kids. Most people say it sucks only because it is McDonalds.

Self-contradicting. But yah, I got the impression they were merely a publisher on the NES.
jesusc #11 Posted July 3, 2005 Hardcore Gaming Magazine just reminded me of one, North and South. Blaster Master is hardly underrated. It appears on most people's "good nes games" lists.

jesusc #13 Posted July 3, 2005 perhaps it's random coincidence, but most people i know who had an NES played Blaster Master. I was under the impression that it was a fairly common game, and I recall most mags of the era had articles and even maps and strategies for it. joeybastard #14 Posted July 3, 2005 My vote goes for Air Fortress. It's part side scrolling shooter and a little Metroid and a whole lot of fun. It's cool that it's the only game I can think of with recoil when you fire your gun. It makes it tricky in some tight corridors because you'll shoot a baddie and push yourself into another one. I picked it up at a yard sale in the beginning of the summer. I haven't finished it yet but I'm pretty close.
KIWASABI #15 Posted July 3, 2005 Zen Intergalactic Ninja is a pretty cool game, I think. It had great graphics since it was so late in the NES's life. I don't think I've ever heard anyone mention it, so I thought I'd go ahead and throw it out there. -Adam
Dones #16 Posted July 4, 2005 Magic of Scherehazade (however it's spelled ). A little bit of dragon warrior style rpg fights with a Crystalis-like adventuring.
ApolloBoy #17 Posted July 4, 2005 My vote goes to Metalstorm. Not only is it an awesome game to play, but it's got impressive graphics to boot.
Jess Ragan #18 Posted July 4, 2005 I'd choose Little Samson by Taito. I didn't even know the game was RELEASED in America until a year ago... it's so underrated that nobody even noticed it! It's a spectacular game, though. Imagine the gameplay of Mega Man split among four different characters, each with their own unique abilities. Samson is the most athletic of the bunch, while the dragon is able to fly, the golem is invulnerable to spikes, and the mouse can stick to walls. You'll need to switch between the four heroes regularly to survive each stage and collect all the power-ups within them. It's linear, just like the early Mega Man games, but also very fun and satisfying. JR

shadow460 #20 Posted July 5, 2005 (edited) Rad Racer and Burai Fighter get my vote. Burai Fighter is a shoot em up that's not as anal as Raiden. You only lose part of your weapons when you die, and the bombs are instant. It's got a great soundtrack, and lasts for hours on a complete playthrough. Burai Fighter lasts at least 2 hours if you can keep it going that long (you can stop and then come back later), whereas Raiden DX goes 8 minutes, and the Raiden Fighters lasts about 10 minutes. Ken Lobb prgrammed this game, and he also worked on KI 1 and 2. Rad Racer was quite suspenseful. I think it was made before Final Fantasy. I find it hard to believe Squaresoft turned out titles this good and was close to bankruptcy. I bought Final Fantasy Legend because it had the Square name, which I experiences with Rad Racer. Later I bought FF7 based on how much I loved FF Legend 1, 2, and 3. There was no argument, I was going to get it when it came out, 'cause I liked Legend so much. It took me 30 days after I got FF7 to start it, though, while I finished Shining the Holy Ark (I couldn't wait for FF7 so I bought another good RPG). I still have my original CD sets for both games, and systems to play them on. Oops, I've digressed. Anyway, were it not for Rad Racer, I probably would have never played awesome games like FF7 and FFX-2. Don't get me wrong about Raiden, either. All the games in that series are good. Despite its severe difficulty, The Raiden Fighters is my favorite shoot 'em up. Edited July 5, 2005 by shadow460
Dr. Morbis #21 Posted July 5, 2005 Man, there are like 150 underrated games on the NES. I wouldn't even know where to start. For this topic, I will randomly select... ...Bad News Baseball. It's a blast to play, the control and play mechanics are spot on, and all the umps are rabbits. How cool is that?

Radical dude! Have you tried "3-D Adventures of World Runner"? That wasn't bad either. Square did release a horrible, horrible game for the NES that ironically sports a cool anime-like cover art (can't remember it's name). What was it guys? jesusc #23 Posted July 5, 2005 don't know the specific one you're looking for, but King's Knight was pretty craptacular.
Jess Ragan #24 Posted July 5, 2005 I'm certain it was King's Knight. That game wouldn't have been bad if it had a less cryptic weapon system and a lot fewer of those blasted barriers. I mean, you spent more time shooting through groves of trees and rock formations than enemies! That's not exciting... it's monotonous! JR
fmctm1sw #25 Posted July 5, 2005 What was that game that had some kind of text messages pop up on the screen. There was a helicoptor too. Something tells me you were hunting for someone. The person you find turns out to be bad... Oh boy, memory is failing. You were named "Super Joe" or something?
