AlexKIDD #1 Posted July 6, 2005 So i've been watching the preview videos for coded arms and i'd like to check it out. Looks like a halo rip off,but for a portable system that's not really a bad thing. I'm wondering if I buy this game(or any new psp release for that matter) will it automatically update the firmware on the system, making my snes and turbo roms unplayable? Excuse my ignorance on the subject, since I don't even know what firmware is,only that I can't update it. If this is the case sony is going to lose some money doing this because I (and i'm sure quite a few others) would much rather use the system as a portable snes, turbo, genesis etc than for psp games. Jess Ragan #2 Posted July 6, 2005 My understanding is that the game simply will not play on your PSP unless you CHOOSE to update the firmware on your system. A firmware update is included in the game so you don't have to find a wireless access point to make your system compatible with it. Having said that, there is an alternate method of playing Coded Arms. I've tried the game already and it seems pretty impressive, at least visually. I don't think you can really compare it to Halo, though... it feels more like a confined corridor shooter in the tradition of Doom, at least from the half hour I spent with it. AlexKIDD #3 Posted July 6, 2005 Thanks for the info. I have another question though. How about new memory cards,do those have anything to do with firmware? I'm going to need a bigger one if I want to play duo games.
Jess Ragan #4 Posted July 6, 2005 No, but if you have any doubts whatsoever about this, you can always format the card before you start using it. This shouldn't be necessary, though. JR
Shannon #5 Posted July 6, 2005 The update required by the US version of coded arms is only 1.50 anyways, so no need to worry there. But dont be surprised if future games required 1.52. Especially in light of the recent news.

Shannon #7 Posted July 7, 2005 The three latest releases as far as I know. Which would be.. Coded Arms Midnight Club 3 and I believe Dead to Rights. Not sure on the last one. Regardless. At this point non of the current releases are a problem. But I'm sure that'll change in the future.
