guitarmas #1 Posted July 9, 2005 Curious if anyone has used a Pelican "Real Arcade" playstation joystick for PC MAME emulation. I just pick one up today at a local used video game shop for about $15 and I just wanna find out what good it is.
LocalH #2 Posted July 9, 2005 Is that the plain Real Arcade or the "Real Arcade Universal" with GC and XBox connectors as well? I had problems getting my RAU to work with my PSX adaptor (although a DualShock2 works perfectly). I ended up having to get a four-way XBox adaptor to use it. Through the XBox adaptor, however, it simply kicks ass. Only cost me $50 for the joystick plus another $20 for the adaptor, whereas an X-Arcade controller costs something like $100. Jess Ragan #3 Posted July 9, 2005 I haven't had much luck with these joysticks. My last one burned out the Dual Shock power supply in my Playstation 2. JR

I think since I only paid $15 for it and a PSX USB adapter at radioshack is only $10, I didn't do too bad with the cost part.
LocalH #5 Posted July 9, 2005 If it's the plain one, I can't say one way or the other. At such a low cost, it's worth a try, and as a plus, even if it doesn't, the PSX adaptor (which is the same one I own) comes in really handy for using a standard pad to play classic games. I know some people say the d-pad isn't really too good, but I don't have problems with it. Hell, I can even acceptably play N64 games with it.
Danno #6 Posted July 11, 2005 I just got one for MAME use, and occasional use on my PS2 (which has been collecting dust for months). This stick is AWESOME. It's the same quality joystick and button parts as with an X-Arcade stick, but for 1/4 the price. Now all I have to do is fine a way to hack a spinner and trackball onto it, and it'll be complete. If so then how did you get it to work man?? I've run completely out of ideas to get this thang to work right.
Danno #8 Posted July 12, 2005 Nope. Mine's a universal. Let me guess - you're trying to uses a Ki-ky Joy USB adaptor, right? There are two versions of them. One that is compatible with PS2 sticks, and one that isn't. The Blue one, the X-series, is compatible with all the features of a PS2 arcade stick, under Windows XP. The other, older version doesn't work at all.

It kept going 'right' for some reason and I could care less now why it did that. If there IS an easy solution for it then, I'm all over it.

The Radio Shack ones are only compatible with PSX/PS1 third party sticks. The Kiky-Joy X-series is 100% compatible. I got mine for $11 at Microcenter.
