d8thstar #1 Posted January 31, 2002 it's been said here before but if you haven't, pick up the atari cd for dreamcast. the interviews of nolan alone are worth the price. curious if anyone knows where what was known as "andy kapps pub" is located in the bay area. are they still a bar? is it a building that is open to the public? the geek in me would like to visit... ubersaurus #2 Posted January 31, 2002 I bought that when it first came out. Well worth it. It's harder to see vector games unless you toy around with TV settings though.
moycon #3 Posted January 31, 2002 Does this game have Tempest? One thing about that game. I have Tempest2000 on Jag and it looks awesome...But damn I need that little knobby controller to get into the game. I can play the game perfectly emulated on the PC... But its just not as fun with the knob. Anyone agree? Also does this Dreamcast disc include Atari 2600 as well as the arcade games? Or is it all one or the other? d8thstar #4 Posted January 31, 2002 the games themselves are all arcade. but, in the archive section (which is HUGE), they have info, screenshots, box art, etc for all the atari home versions (26, 78, 52, computer). hell, they even have a movie of the 2600 tempest proto! andy kapps bar? anyone? MikeMika #5 Posted January 31, 2002 Also, be sure to pick up the Midway Collection 2 for DC, it is a best buy exclusive and a very low manufacturing run. It has Gauntlet, etc, on it. And look out for the Atari Classics on GBA. Super Breakout, Tempest, etc. You can play Centipede and Super Breakout sideways for more accurate aspect ratio. ubersaurus #6 Posted January 31, 2002 Tempest is on there. Still, Trackball and paddle games are kinda tough to use the pad or the stick on, but it's manageable enough.
MikeMika #7 Posted January 31, 2002 Andy Capps is now called Rooster T. Feathers, I think it is in Cupertino- They have a web-site. We brought the Pong machine to the location for the interview with Nolan. It was cool. I have a picture of myself kicking Nolan's Pong butt at the game while we were there. krambigmac #8 Posted March 4, 2002 I bought the Atari Anniversary edition and the sticker was worth the price but the interviews and other archives are fantastic. Oh yeah, the games. That's the point of it, well I like the conversions so it's good enough for me but my aunt has the PSX version and it's like impossible to see anything in Asteroids although I don't remember having that problem. ubersaurus #10 Posted March 4, 2002 If you can find it, get Powerstone 2. And a VMU, the Item book takes up a good half one of those things capacity. But you can find someone else to play it with, it's great, frenzied fun. Other games I play alot are Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves (DC has a large number of quality fighting game ports), Gundam was pretty sweet, Shenmue is a great game, and 2 is too, if you don't mind importing from Europe/Japan. Sonic is great as always, and don't forget the Sega Smashpack.
Uncle Duke #11 Posted March 4, 2002 What ever happened to Shenmue 2? Did they ever release it for the DC? I saw that it would be, and I was waiting and waiting, then one day I went on Sega's website and couldnt find a damn thing about it anymore. Its like they just erased the existence of it ever being released or if it was released. I looked on websites and couldnt find a thing for it. But I did see where they were releasing it for X-Box. While on the subject, I just want to let you people know, I will NEVER buy another Sega product, they make my favorite game system, then a week after we buy it they stop production and leave me hanging with Shenmue 2! It makes me sick they would do that to us Dreamcast fans/players. Sega's only real success was the Genesis. Every other system they did blew away like a fart in the wind. I actually thought Dreamcast was doing successful. I know I love it. And how much longer untill they totally abandon us and stop making games, I noticed they were slowing down drastically, selling left over Sports games and stuff. krambigmac #12 Posted March 5, 2002 Shenmue 2 became an Xbox exclusive in the US because Gates paid Sega a lot of money. That screwed over a ton of people but I imported the European version since it is still in English.
d8thstar #13 Posted March 5, 2002 hey mark, how do you get past the pal on an ntsc machine?
ubersaurus #14 Posted March 5, 2002 The game shows up fine. Basically the difference is in the console itself. Therefore, with a boot disk, it'll run.
krambigmac #15 Posted March 5, 2002 Yeah just use a boot disc. I use the Innovation brand one but the Gameshark CDX and DCX boot discs should work fine.
+Cafeman #16 Posted March 5, 2002 Yeah, Shen II works fine with a boot disk. I'm trying to beat it myself (not that its hard, it's the time I'm trying to find). I'm on the 3rd disk ... just fell to my death a few times by trying to walk over wooden planks in a 10-story bldg ... Per the topic of this thread, yeah I bought that last year on day 1. I played a LOT of Crystal Castles and Gravitar that month. The interviews and extra stuff is very nice, good work D.E. Mike, get Chris posting over here.
