Mindfield #1 Posted July 11, 2005 (edited) Just won this. Now, it's my understanding that River Raid II came in an ordinary cardboard box, but since when did they ever release it in a plastic clamshell? The only time I've ever seen clamshells associated with post-crash Activision were with the Action Paks distributed by HES in Australia, but this apparently isn't PAL. Did the PAL white-label RRII have a clamshell package in Europe? EDIT: I just realized this is an Aussie HES release... thus PAL. Odd that the seller says it's "working perfectly." Either his TV can display PAL or he's full of it. Edited July 11, 2005 by Mindfield

The colors will be off, but it'll be fine otherwise.
Mindfield #3 Posted July 11, 2005 (edited) Yeah, unfortunately my main one can't. I do have an older TV where I've adjusted the Vhold right round 55Hz, so it can display PAL and NTSC signals without rolling and without adjustment. Not that it matters -- I have the NTSC cart, I just thought this one was sort of interesting. I'll probably just stick it with the Action Paks as another PAL release. Mind you the PAL rarity database lists it as an R3, so I think I may have paid a bit much for it... :-P Edited July 11, 2005 by Mindfield
Wester #4 Posted July 11, 2005 I almost bid on that too. I saw the box, kind of threw me too.
Zwackery #5 Posted July 11, 2005 It is a nice label on the cart compared with the NTSC release...
pinball22 #6 Posted July 11, 2005 Yeah, I'd love to have that one on the shelf just cause it's snazzy-looking.
Mindfield #7 Posted July 11, 2005 Well, I'm not really complaining -- I already have 3 HES boxed releases (though one of the Paks is missing a cart and none have manuals, and two of them have their plastic trays cracked and broken like mad because the seller shipped the damn things in a padded envelope all the way from down under ) so at least this one won't look out of place. :-) I might have let it go if I'd realized it was PAL sooner, as I tend only to collect PAL exclusives rather than PAL releases of games that were also released in NTSC. Still, I like this one's label better than the plain text NA release.
