SIO2PC

Recommended Posts

I just got my SIO2PC cable in the mail. Man is working like a champ! Where can I find some more info about loading games and stuff? been trying with APE and LOAD, but no joy. I can get games to load from APE and turning the 800 on.

APE came with SpartaDOS, and works super nice too, but, where can I find a tutorial? Man, I'm going to be busy this weekend :)

Thanks

If you have EXE games, try using the PC Mirror to load them. Set the PC Mirror drive as drive #1 and then boot the Atari from that drive.

You will see a typical Atari game bootloader appear, with a directory listing from your hard drive on the PC. You can navigate that using the keyboard on the Atari and select the game you want to load.

If you have ATR games, just put the ATR image of the game you want to load into drive #1 and turn on the 800.

Be sure to remove your BASIC cartridge before trying to load and games, unless you know for sure that those games require BASIC (99.9% dont).

hi steve, thanks for the tips. No, I didn't get any exe games yet. I've got some ATR images, I got some of them to boot (Mr Do, Ace of Aces, Missile Command) and some will not work (River Raid)

I have a bunch of games001.atr but somehow I can't get them to work. I will try with the exe games. Thanks!

another question, can I load rom images with the SIO2PC?

You can't load rom images with sio2pc, they have to be cracked into .exe files first, lots of them are out there already.

The games you have that start with games00x.atr are probably the Jellystone compilation disks and they require that you put a menu.atr image in disk slot #1 and the game00x.atr in disk #2. I'll attach the menu file for you.

You can't load raw rom images, you will need to locate the EXE versions of those rom images.

The EXE version will basically be a pre-packed version of the rom image that has the data required to load the file. It also may be patched to allow it to play without the actual cartridge.

Try the links here for ATR and EXE files:

All I need to do now is to save some mulah and register my copy of APE, what a neat software! I just loaded a copy of river raid from a cas file, not a problem! :)

menu.atr worked out just perfect, I get the list of games and all. But for some reason, I can't get the games to work :( I guess is something wrong with the atr?

one more question, the cable came with a switch for RI and DSR, I'm using it with RI, should I mess with that and switch it to DSR?

None of the games on the mega ATR images will work?

If none work you should check your system, most should work. Make sure you have at least 48k in your Atari 800, and that no cartridges are inserted.

If you have problems with I/O stalling (you will be able to hear it) then change to DSR. For just loading games RI will probably work fine.

Steve: I've got some of the games in the megaimage to work. Most of the ATRs I'm getting now they are working fine (most of the time) the exes I've got one to work so far (pacman) but I haven't download another to try yet.

I have some sort of problem getting PRO to load. I'm getting a message in the screen telling me to remove any carts from the system. No big deal, the ATRs are keeping me busy :)

roger that... almost 'new' atari 800 xl

You'll need to hold down the "option" key when booting the xl to disable the onboard BASIC - most .atr files need BASIC to be disabled.
