Colecovision Dream Game

Recommended Posts

Just curious, which games would you really like to see on the CV? I'm really impressed with what I've seen with the system so far, and I'd like to see how much the system is really capable of. I would really like to see the arcade Mario Bros. on the CV.

Ummm... Spectar!! Oh wait... Scott's working on this already! :) WOOHOO!

As for another game I'd like to see on the ColecoVision... how about a new Action RPG?!

Super Zaxxon. Maybe with today's programming techniques it could be done proper and make up for the original port.

Which original port? Zaxxon for the CV? Super Zaxxon is avaliable on the ADAM.

Arcade Mario Bros. is probably available on the MSX, so porting to the CV is very doable.

I just checked out the info on Spectar, and although I've never played the games, it looks awesome from the screenshots. I'd also like to see a sophisticated side-scrolling platformer on the CV. Something along the lines of Smurfs more advanced, meaning that instead of just merely avoiding bad guys, you actually get to retaliate like in Super Mario Bros. Although I know that the CV isn't known for it's sidescrolling, so I don't know how smooth such a game would turn out. Maybe a Smurfs 2?

Yes the original CV Zaxxon. Looks pretty on a still screen, but chugs and farts horribly like all CV scrollers. I'd like to see that (re)done.

Something like this? Super Mario Bros 2 on CV/MSX hardware. Click on the screen with your mouse. Use the arrow keys, jump with the spacebar.

YES! :D Something very much like this. I'm amazed at how good the graphics look, and I could tell the difference in the scrolling between this and Super Mario Bros on the NES. Although I'm not too familiar with the MSX, I know enough to know that it and the Colecovision are similar in hardware (or exactly the same). So, I don't doubt this could be possible, although I know it won't happen since Mario Bros is a huge liscense and whoever takes on such a task would get into deep trouble with Nintendo. But it is just a dream game. :)

I would like to see a similar style game made for the CV, it needs a platformer that's more advanced than Smurfs. Any ideas on what other game could fit the bill? Thanks for sharing.

Nice work! I've always wondered if the CV could handle Super Mario Bros, but due to the copyright issues, we'll probably never know. Still, I'm really excited about the new CV titles that are in the works.

Define "proper." Compared to Broderbund's original release, the Colecovision port is pretty faithful.

You're hoping for a port of the Sega-licensed arcade game, aren't you?

Dammit. Atariboy2600 makes me drool every time he posts a new label! Especially in the 5200 forum.

We should start a CV label thread...or I should say Atariboy2600 should...

My mockup labels always suck real bad.

:x

Yes. I use to play the crap out of that game as a kid. It's still one of my all time favorites.

To correct you, Super Zaxxon is NOT on the ADAM. I think you're referring to the Zaxxon SUpergame. There are no elements from Super Zaxxon on this title. What they did do is take the original CV Zaxxon, and add 4-5 new levels, new enemies, a save feature, and a "Mini" Zaxxon to defeat.

Its an awesome game!

No, Mario Bros isn't available on the MSX... But a month ago I started two new arcade ports, Rally-X and Mario Bros. The first one has passed concept stage, with some actual code already running in the CV. For the second, I have started to debug the original and create some concept art.

The technical highlight with Rally-X will be the smooth scroll and the necessary use of an undocumented screen mode. With Mario Bros the challenge is to create arcade quality animation, which is beyond the standard CV sprite capabilities. I am confident I will achieve both... :)

Screenshots later tonight, once I get back home.

I was going to say the same thing. In fact when I played Sega's version I was wondering, "What the hell? This doesn't look like Choplifter"

I'd like to see Zoo Keeper on the CV, along with a bunch of other arcade ports from that era.

Wizard of Wor, of course! It's a cryin' shame that it was never released on the ColecoVision, although judging from Coleco's less than stellar conversions of other Midway arcade games, it probably would have looked like this:

Wow, I can't wait for some of these to show up. Thanks to all you CV scientists.

I would love to see:

Wizard of Wor

Tron

Circus Charlie

Commando

Make Trax

Donkey Kong 3

Guzzler

Kickman (for the roller controller!!)

Arabian

Rygar (This is a really hard one)

One more favor:

Atariboy, can you make a Tron Colecovision mock?
