carmel_andrews #2 Posted July 21, 2005 Guten amt Andreas is there a prize of the best software and hardware 'idea', especially from us non coders/hardware hackers, as you must appreicate that some of us a8 lubbies aren't as proficient in those areas like you and your lot at abbuc obviously are My hardware idea is a redesigned combo amie/pokey chip but in 1 IC and stereo capab's as well Alternatively a redesigned 65816 upgrade with bigger address/data bus and more instructions and semi compat. with atarixl/e or 800 o/s and also it's own o/s and sep i/o subsystem compat. with usb storage ide/sata and scsi storage devs. (to compare with 64bit ppc/athlon64 etc) Another hardware idea would be a combo Anitc/GTia with Maria in one IC, with additional logic to handling higher colour range, high rez gfx and polygons etc, vertical DL's like the STE, assign it some of it's own ram (for DLI processing which means you can have more ellaborate and intricate DLI happening and none of the current limitations, and also 2600/7800 compatibility so to using an a8 to program the 2600 and 7800 and playing 2600/7800 games/homebrews on an a8 Software wise A redesigned Mac 65 on cart (with built in dos) and compat with '816 u/g's, incl. compilation and production of '8165 codes/instructions, and replace DDT with an updated version of ultimon (but with built in calculator mode, like omnimon) A redesigned mydos (forget spartados... cant stand it) to handle h/ds and parts. over 1gig (per part) and does away with the 9 devices limitation, also to handle CD and DVD writers An updated version of Star Raiders (based on SR1 gameplay, not SR2) with added 2 player or network game ability, similar to the verison that either mattel or coleco were going to put out on their gaming system (but didn't get round to it)
+CharlieChaplin #3 Posted July 25, 2005 Well, if there are or if there will be any plans, schematics, source-codes etc. available for your ideas, then there is a big chance of getting a prize. Because other Atarians would then (probably) be able to built that hardware on their own. But - if these ideas are only ideas in the form of written words (dreams, like "I would like to have..."), then there is absolutely no chance of getting a prize. ABBUC will not spend any prizes for hardware that exists only in dreams... On the other hand, the ABBUC hardware contest has no entries, no registrations yet! And err, if there is only one registration in the end, this will automatically be the winner... -Andreas Magenheimer.
