Nintendo Penguin #1 Posted July 22, 2005 I was messing around with my SNES last night and for some reason decided to put in Mario All-Stars. I never played this much cause I had those games for me NES. (except lost levels) Anyways, I was playing around and could'nt get to the negative world (world -1) in Super Mario Bros. Is it not possible to do this in the All-Stars Version? Don't ask me why I even bothered with this... lets just say I was really bored last night. +Cobra Kai #4 Posted July 22, 2005 How do you get to negative world in NES SMB? 896483 On world 1-2, near the end there is a wall with a green pipe sticking out of it near the bottom. If I remember correctly you have to stand on the pipe and jump backwards into the wall and it will 'suck' you through, and inside is a special warp pipe that takes you to minus land. JB #5 Posted July 22, 2005 From what I read the minus world glitch was removed in the All-Stars cart. 896474 Given the games were, as far as I know, full recodes instead of simple ports, it wasn' t so much that it was removed as they didn't expend the effort to create it. Dones #6 Posted July 22, 2005 (edited) You could look at it that way. Must be weird to purposely code a game behavior that was the result of a bug. Edited July 22, 2005 by Dones
Atari-Jess #7 Posted July 22, 2005 I know you can get ALMOST sucked in all-stars and I don't think the NES games would be total re-writes would they? can't the SNES processor use 8bit 6502 code?
JB #8 Posted July 22, 2005 (edited) I know you can get ALMOST sucked in all-stars and I don't think the NES games would be total re-writes would they? can't the SNES processor use 8bit 6502 code? 896607 It CAN, but the graphics registers, even in the NES-equivalent mode, are in totally diffrent locations(besides which, All-Stars uses parallax). And the sound code is totally diffrent. I'd bet that when all is said and done, it's easier to recode from scratch. I've heard complaints that hte rebound off the underside of a block is diffrent than on the NES, but I'm not really familiar enough with the games to say. sigma #9 Posted July 22, 2005 I thought you could do the trick in All-Stars, just that the pipe would work correctly. Of course, I've never tried it myself, so I don't know.

LocalH #13 Posted July 23, 2005 You can get Mario inside the wall on the SNES version, but they fixed the bug where the outer two pipes had a world value of 36, so that you still go where you're supposed to. I know you can get Mario inside the wall because I've done it numerous times. Those GameFAQs FAQs are wrong. The NES world 36 is kind of useless, but do the trick on the Japanese FDS version of the game, and you get some even odder worlds. World 36-3 is one of the Bowser levels (I think it's the one from world 4) with underground graphics instead of castle graphics. Finish 36-3 and it acts like you beat the whole game, complete with the B button world select on the title screen.
Crimefighter #14 Posted July 23, 2005 With a Game Genie and changing the first two letters or the last letter of the world select codes you can pay a visit to all sorts of wierdo levels.

tmont #16 Posted July 24, 2005 They also fixed the double-jump glitch in SMB2 on All-Stars, as well (or so I've heard, I don't actually own it). Just out of curiosity, can you still do the small and fiery Mario trick on the All-Stars version?
LocalH #17 Posted July 24, 2005 I don't think so. I also think they fixed the double-jump-from-mushroom in SMB1/SMB2j. I have yet to check if they took away the hat stomp in both or the high bounce in SMB2j (which allowed you to bounce much higher than in SMB1, by jumping up and clipping the corner of a Paratroopa). I think the wall jump is still there (I think it's related to the world 36 bug, since to get in the wall you have to essentially begin to wall jump, and hit the wall on just the right tile boundary), but I've never done it. Video #19 Posted July 25, 2005 How do you get to negative world in NES SMB? 896483 It's easy to go into the minus world. You go to the end of world 1-2, the underground, go to the last of it, but don't go over the top, or in the pipe. Jump on the pipe, and walk all the way to the wall. Now there's two blocks above you, the one streight up needs to stay, but the one just to the left of that needs broken. Once you break thee second from the right top block, you stand facing left (away from the wall) and jump up into the gap you've formed. When you get to the top of the jump press right. If your lucky, the back of marios head will barely hit the block left, and he'll be sucked into the wall. This drags you to the warp pipe room, only there's no numbers over the pipes for a moment, and if you jump in one, you go to the minus world. If you wait to long, or go to far right though, the level numbers will appear over the pipes and they will teleport you normally. Hope this helsp you out. The thing that I want to know, if anybody knows about it, or if I'm the only one who's tried it or what? Anybody know about the dead mario trick when defeating bowser (any of the x-4 worlds) If you know what I'm talking about, that's cool, if not, here's what you do (and I've tried and tried, but only managed to pull this off in the original game, the remakes have redone bowsers and the trick seems to not work) Get to the end of the x-4 worlds, again, any of them, and when you come to bowser, let him come to the left side of the screen, he'll come after jumping a few times. Once Bowser goes to the left, if your small, simply go right to the ax (dont' touch it) if your big, touch bowser to get small. Anyhow, once your small, stand next to the ax, it's one block up from the floor, so just go all the way over. And wait for bowser to return. Just as Bowser gets to where he is going to touch Mario, jump streight up. As your coming down, tap right, just slightly. Now for what it does, if you don't know, this will spoil it so don't read any further. If you pull the trick off properly, you will touch bowser, and the ax at the same time. Mario will die, and it will play the "you died" tune. After that, the floor will fall out and bowser will drop while it plays the victory music, and it will advance to the next room. Toad will be there, but no mario. Sometimes, after playing the victory music, it will play the you died music again. Useually, your not counted as a penalty for duying, and sometimes there are some other glitches, but they, to my experiance, all clear up by the time you get to the next level. Anyhow, Just curious if anybody knew this or not. If so, cool, if not it's cool to pass it along.
Nintendo Penguin #20 Posted July 25, 2005 I have done the dead mario thing before, but usually by accident. I have always wanted to do that in 8-4, but never have been able to. It is pretty hard to do in the later X-4 levels cause Koopa is throwing hammers. Its a cool bug.

It's pretty hilarious looking, since whenever you shoot a fireball, Mario returns to the large size and then shrinks back down to the little size instantly.
