Size of classic arcade game displays

How big were the monitors on most of the classic arcade games.... Donkey Kong, Pac Man, Centipede, etc.

 

I'm curious how large of a monitor I would need to play them in all their original glory w/ Mame.

 

My 19" seems a bit small

Actually, 19 is about right. Depending, some of the machines had 15, and a few old ones had 13 I think even.

In general, for classics, the monitors were 19". Few uprights deviated from that.

Yep - 19" was the standard. It *does* seem small to me as well... probably because back in the day a 19" screen was huge compared to the 13" TV I played my Atari on But with today's 60"+ plasmas and whatnot, 19" seems tiny in comparison.

Wow.... they really did seem so much bigger, of course, I was a lot smaller

 

I would have guessed like 25 inches was the norm.

 

Heck, the TV we grew up with in the living room was 19".... and it seemed a lot bigger than my monitor now that I think about it.
