Super Punch-Out for SNES

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever played this one to death? Did you play it so much that you had your eight best time against each fighter within .02 seconds of each other? If so, then this question might interest you.

Specifically, it is about the fighter Piston Hurricane. There is some growing debate at to whether or not a specific time can be breached. Those who are "in the know" seem to think that there is absolutely no way to break 5.50 seconds. (That time is even using a pause cheat.) So, around a hair less than six seconds is what they believe is a legitimate "perfect time." (Using the prescribed methods, I can finish the fight in 5.89 seconds.)

However, during one of those stints of playing the game to death, I managed to slaughter that time. I will not say by how much, but I will say that the 5.50 seconds above would not have even come close to appearing on my top eight list. Has anyone else managed a time less than 5.50 on Piston Hurricane?

There is a loophole on this fighter. For the life of me, I can't remember where.

I dabbled a little with getting those incredibly low times two years ago but gave up quickly. I did manage to get one by reading a doc at gamefaqs. However nothing as specific as what you are talking about.

The reason I was asking is that there's a Twin Galaxies ref offering a bounty for the lowest total time for all sixteen fighters. One fellow is on there claiming certain times I have posted are impossible to get. (Some of which I have on tape.)

The time I alluded to was a sub-4 second knockout of Piston Hurricane.

At this time, 5.66 is my best.

It's one of my favorite SNES games of all time. I loved Punchout in the arcade and this version was better than any arcade version and way better then the NES version. It's the best arcade style boxing game of the 16 bit era IMO with Evander Holyfield Boxing for the Genesis being the best sim styled boxing game.

Sounds like a good title to me. I could certainly look for it somewhere as Punch Out on the NES is one of my favorite titles.

There is a $50 bounty for the fastest cumulative time for all sixteen fighters. I would almost certainly expect someone to dial in right at three minutes total.

My current total is 3:25 and change.

You have to know their patterns, study the timing, and do everything perfectly.

This is one of those games where one might spend hours trying to shave a couple hundredths of a second off of their time.

While trying to go for this bounty, I spent two hours trying over and over again to record a fight which ultimately lasted 8.50 seconds. Conversely, I spent all of five minutes to score four times on Piston Hurricane "ranging" from 5.67 to 5.66 seconds, (which was immediately deemed as impossible by some ignorant blowhard just because he didn't know how to do it.)
