elviticus #1 Posted July 25, 2005 Ok, passed one of these at Toys-R-Us and figured - why not? It's $20 and has 25 games - I have most on the real thing, but I thought it would be fun to have just for portability etc. Does this thing really suck as bad as I think it does - or is mine defective? It seems like the buttons don't even work right half the time. I especially have trouble selecting games and resetting the unit. Also, the sound, graphics and gameplay all seem messed up. Is this thing defective or is it really this bad?
joeybastard #2 Posted July 25, 2005 (edited) Nope it sucks bad. Before I got my INTV, someone game the same unit for Xmas that you just got. The games are poorly emulated, there's barely any sound and the controller blows goats. Not worth $2 in my book. SteveW #3 Posted July 25, 2005 There's no emulation going on in those at all. They are all cheap and nasty ports from the original hardware to Famicom-on-a-chip technology. The NES/Famicom hardware isn't capable of recreating the sound of the original Intellivision, so what little sound (and no music whatsoever) is really poor quality. It's nice to own as a novelty, but nothing good enough to make you want to play it more than once.
retrocon #4 Posted July 25, 2005 I actually got one of these at the show in las vegas when they first came out. Having an Intellivision as a kid, I was so excited to retry some of my favorites... God, did this turn out to be complete garbage. Just to make it clear, these games are nothing like the real intellivision games at all. I ended up tearing it apart just to see what the internals were. Never bothered to put it back together and it ended up in the circular storage bin. raindog #5 Posted July 26, 2005 Yeah, I only have one of these because I collect plug-n-plays (at least, those with licensed games from the 70's and 80's. I drew the line at Mortal Kombat and Madden 95.) It's kinda wretched. Pick up a C64 one if you can find it (and have any nostalgia for the C64.) The game selection is so-so but WOW, is the execution good. I guess the Flashback 2 might be in the same league, but.... eh, it's not built all into one joystick

I think I want one and i'd like to see a picture of it along with screenshots and the list of games on it.
raindog #7 Posted July 26, 2005 Well, my impression is that Tulip is actually selling it, but I can't find their site. Here's a place in the UK selling it: http://www.gadgets.co.uk/commodore-64-c64-...o-tv-games.html I bought mine through QVC, but they long since sold out. I've played a demo unit at a KB Toys as well, but it doesn't appear on their website. Google for "c64dtv" or "commodore 64 direct to tv" for way more info. Sure would be sweet if the Intellivision guys released a product with this much care put into it. I had such high hopes what with the original developers seemingly being in charge, but they just cashed in (not just with the plug-n-play, but with the generic Chinese LCD games that they stuck the Intellivision brand on.)
