+Omegamatrix #1 Posted July 27, 2005 Wouldn't it be nice if you could go buy a kit that would allow you to swap buttons, sticks, and grips on a particular joystick? Say I buy the PS3 and hate the joystick. I either have the option of getting a third party controller or just sticking it out with what I have. Imagine though if it came with a joystick capable of disassembling without any screws and such so I that I could change the width of the handles to my preference, or having the option to pop out a 4 way d-pad and putting in a true 8 way d-pad. Maybe you could swap in longer or shorter analog sticks, or put in a analog stick with a different grip. The point here is to have an interchangable joystick that snaps together like lego. They could sell these kits apart from the system to keep the costs down, and you could get by with unmodified joysick easiley (hopefully a quality, fairly durable product. Or on a side note perhaps they could make a joystick that doesn't come apart, but is adjustable in some way. You could move the handles to whatever position you want and they just lock in. Perhaps I'm just dreaming here, but it's a sweet dream. BTW I pointed out the PS3 here but I really mean all the next generation systems. My biggest concern here is not that they would break easy, but that the big three would turn it into a cash cow and deliberately give you a bad joystick to begin with so that you really wanted (or needed) to buy the kit. Needles Kane #2 Posted July 27, 2005 There's some PS2 pad that lets you swap the positions of the buttons and the D-pad, but that's a far cry from your uber-customization dream . That would be really cool.

Atari-Jess #9 Posted July 31, 2005 some people predict the nintendo revolution's controllers are going to be like this. It be interesting, but that would certainly be a lot of pieces by the end of the consoles run!

The whole controller re-assembles itself on-the-fly to match the game software and the user's hand. When not in use, it's just a gray ball. (Hey, it's as believable as any of the other rumors...) JB #12 Posted August 1, 2005 (edited) I hate 8-way dpads. 902112[/snapback] I assume you mean non-cross pads, as they're ALL 8-way... I personally don't care as long as they aren't too hard and the diagonals aren't too easy to hit. Some of my favorite gamepads(like the Saitek P880 lying next to me right now) have had circular d-pads. And some of my least favorite(SONY!) have been cross pads. Vice-versa is also true. Love SNES pads. Edited August 1, 2005 by JB

Cousin Vinnie #14 Posted August 1, 2005 I think the PS2 controller is the best. All consoles should have a controller similiar to this one. It's got plenty of buttons, good weight, fits most hands, and intelligent button lay-out. A kit that featured this style controller that could be converted to any system would be great. Just look at the cube's, it has that yellow analog stick stuck out from the side, and the x-box is just to heavy, and the triggers on it wear your fingers out. sega saturn x #19 Posted August 17, 2005 (edited) There are only a few pads i hate more than the playstaions, mainly just dumb ass controllers with number pads in them. Right now i think the best 3-d controllers ever were the saturn/dreamcast or the game cubes. The game cubes just molds right to your hand and i love the smooth curved shoulder buttons. I think the best controller ever would be a a track ball that squishes in. When you squish it in it acts like a regular button, of course the controller would have rez and nights built rigth in. How can a Dual Shock be perfect, when another gamepad is fatally flawed for having a Dual Shock feature?
