Hey, Mac owners!

Recommended Posts

Since folks have been telling me that they can't get Solar Plexus to work with their Macintosh computers, I brought my classic PowerMac (5400/120) to my apartment in the hopes of testing the game out with it.

Here's the situation. I'm trying to download an early, OS 8-compatible version of Stella on my PC, then transfer it to the Macintosh. Things aren't working out so well, however. The Mac will read PC-formatted discs, but it won't recognize Stella as an executable file. I've tried formatting the disc on the Mac, then using a program called TransMac to copy Stella to the disc, but that didn't work either... it just left my poor Macintosh hopelessly confused.

So, what do I do to make Stella work on my PowerMac? Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

I think you'll need to BinHex the file before it gets to the PC (or look for a BinHexed version).

But wouldn't this be fruitless anyway, since you won't have the same version as the people who are complaining? Or do they have the same "early, OS 8-compatible version"?

I really do not think it's worth bothering to use a Mac running OS 8 to try to get something working.

It's kind of like using Windows 95 to troubleshoot problems for someone running XP. (Bad analogy, in that OS 8 was vastly superior to Win95, but it's just as out of date.)

The problem is likely that your friends aren't using the latest version of the emulator. You need at least Stella 1.2 to play any bB games. I've personally tested bB games, and they do work in Stella 1.2 for DOS but not in 1.1.3 or any earlier version. The latest version for pre-OSX Macs is 1.2, but I am not sure if this will run in OS8.

hmm, as far as I know the game seems to work on StellaOSX 1.4. I'm using Mac OSX 10.3.9. As batari said, it may be a problem with the other versions of Stella for the Mac.
