80-Year-Old Wants to Reclaim Q*Bert Record

Recommended Posts

I saw the video on it through Comcast, which was originally from CBS. She is friends with Billy Mitchell, not his mom.

Billy Mitchell, now 40 and a champion gamer himself, met Self in 1983 at that Florida arcade.

All I can say is Way to go grandma!!

That's what I get for reading too fast. I (and my original post) stand corrected. :)

That article has some different information than the CBS video. The video made it look like he gave her the Q-Bert, where in the article it says that he let her borrow it. For you Comcast people, I saw it in the fan still this morning.

I heard about that on the radio Thursday. I was driving my mom back from my sister's house, and that came on one of those Christian radio news reports. They had sound effects from the game and everything. It's great to see and hear this kind of thing on the news, instead of how video games are twisting children's minds.

For those who didn't know, this woman didn't just come out of the woodwork. She held the Q-Bert record back in the 80's when she was a spry 58 years of age.

I'm curious. How many unique games have a Guinness World Book record statistic for them?

Given the thousands of games that have come and gone, I find it interesting that the only ones that get the press are pre-crash coinop titles like these.

They explained that they pretty much just recorded the winners at large tournaments, not just records from anyone.

After GBWR stopped it, Twin Galaxies picked up the Torch
