Boinxx - August update...

Recommended Posts

as some guys are kicking my ass... here is another update... (just for the guys who don't believe i will finish boinxx or even work on it...)

in the attachted zip you'll find:

- enemy.*

these files are testing files for my enemy engine...thomas helped me a lot in the fixed point maths esp. regarding the sign handling. my friend hanno (doctor of physics) helped me in the maths... the .OBX version is the one which will be used for some of the nasties appearing in Boinxx... the ATR shows an older version. you can move the cursor around...

- bixwork.atr is a working dos 2.5 disc. you should mount this disc into drive #1 (ALT+1)

- loader.obx this file you should load (ALT+X) after inserting the bixwork.atr into drive 1... this is a 384 bytes dos 2.5 compatible dos loader which was written by fox for Numen demo (thanks mate!). after loading you can load the game or the title screen... as you can see the dos loader works... ;)

so...next step will be loader+sio-routines for nice loading procedure...

so ACTUALLY i am working on Boinxx...not just playing World of Warcraft or Pro Evolution Soccer 4.... ;) just for DRC and Miker... :D just kidding...

Hmmm,

why do you use the Numen bootloader?? There are many short bootloader programs available out there. Think I have a nice boot-loader in my collection that will load almost any *.COM (or *.EXE, *.XEX) file. Load it from DOS, choose density (Single, Double or Enhanced) and then it will display all files on disk. Choose the ML-file you want to be loaded upon bootup and voila, the program writes some data into the first 2 or 3 bootsectors which will boot the chosen program automatically... Since the boot-loader stores the filename (of the file to be loaded) at sector number 2, you can add as many files (or sources / source-codes) to the disk and the chosen ML-File will still boot & run without problems... -Andreas Magenheimer.

P.S.: Of course this boot-loader has some dis-advantages: 1) it will not disable built-in Basic on Atari XL/XE machines (hold down Option key or append a short file to the bootprogram to disable it automatically); 2) when you press Reset the boot-loader tries to re-load from sector 4 - it does not coldstart the computer...

ok. i have put the 1st enemy into the main code. there are still some gfx glitches but this is mainly because i do not check the enemies not to enter the boinxx-logo area and i do not reset the positions when switching back into title screen mode...

but now you see bad planning... ;) at the moment the enemies do have the same colour on screen like the water... aaarg... still do not know how to solve it right now...but it seems i have to reorganise all the colours on screen...

Great Demo ;) ,

Sometimes my controls go upside down: the ball goes in the opposite direction as it should go....is this a bug, or is this an 'illness' the enemy gives to you??

keep it going HVE

it's not a bug... it's a feature... ;) it should happen when the power up bar is full (below the score panel). after that...randomly an effect is choosen... like on pinball games and the cellar... ;)
