Atari-Jess #1 Posted August 9, 2005 Out of actual releases, which games would you say are some of the most advanced as far as gameplay is concerned? (Not coding or graphics) I suggest: Riddle of the Sphinx (objects, characters, multiple point systems) Star Raiders (the freakin' keypad!) Solaris (map, icons, timer, effects) Stellar Track (classic Star Trek Strategy game) BASIC Programming (still a release, and perhaps the most complex "game") Raiders of the Lost Ark (Objects, Stores, large map, dual joystick) Adventure (this one is exceptional for its age, objects, map, etc) Space Shuttle (a hardcore simulation, about as complex as you can get for the 2600) While my list is pretty good, I'm sure you guys can think of more that I was too lazy to think, that and why do I want to ruin ALL the fun? A.J. Franzman #2 Posted August 9, 2005 Out of actual releases, which games would you say are some of the most advancedas far as gameplay is concerned? (Not coding or graphics) Star Raiders (the freakin' keypad!) 907431[/snapback] I vote no on that one - the Video Touch Pad was wasted on Star Raiders. A simple "hold the button down" or "flip the right difficulty" or "use 2 joysticks" or similar clever alternate interface could easily do away with the 3 extra buttons that the game used out of the available 12. Was there any cart that made good use of joystick + keypad controls?
Atari-Jess #3 Posted August 9, 2005 (edited) The question of HOW it used the keypad or any input isn't what's in question, merely the features and extra functions of the game They believed the game to be advanced enough to require the keypad. (Even if it was gimicky) While I agree with the statement that it was wasted, I still think Star Raiders is a gameplay-advanced game. Edit: And the Star Raiders game used 5 buttons, not 3 of the gamepad, this could have been reduced, and while the game ALSO used the difficulty switches it only made things a little more complex (than it needed to be) Edited August 9, 2005 by Atari-Jess
