Ingersoll ?

I may sound stuped !! But what has Ingersoll got to do with Atari ? I have seen this name alongside atari now a few times. Also I bought a Ingersoll pong games machine from a boot fair at the week end for £3. Have I bought an Atari without realising it ?

I think I'm right in saying Ingersoll and Cherry Leisure were the first importers of Atari consoles to the UK before Atari officially came over here themselves. That's why early UK PSUs say "Ingersoll" on them - they had to provide their own hardware. Most 6-switchers' boxes have Ingersoll on them I think (I know my very early one does).

Yes, you are right there on the distributing and selling front here in the UK. They even had the cheek to have a sticker floating about that said "Atari - another great idea from Ingersoll"

Aren't they the tractor company? Yeesh, now the John Deere 2600 doesn't seem so far-fetched.
