Nope, you can use the keyboard for one player and the Stelladaptor for the other. Or, of course, if you're playing Warlords or Circus Atari, you can play two players with original 2600 paddle controllers.

But If I wanted true 'Atari action' with to sticks, 2 stelladapter's would be needed ? If so does the stella emulator work with 2 apaters pluged in ?

Yes, two Stelladaptors are supported (says so in the manual). The first Stelladaptor that Stella 'sees' is treated as the left joystick port on a real Atari 2600. The second one it 'sees' is treated as the right joystick port. If any others are detected, they're ignored (because a real Atari 2600 only has two ports).

 

Also, two Stelladaptors would allow four players in Warlords, assuming of course you have two sets of paddles.
