This isn't new, there was a very similar story three years ago:

Man dies after playing computer games non-stop

October 10 2002

A 24-year-old South Korean man died after playing computer games nonstop for 86 hours, police said yesterday.

The jobless man, identified by police only by his last name Kim, was found dead at an Internet cafe in Kwangju, 260 kilometres southwest of Seoul, they said.

Quoting witnesses, police detective Oh Myong-sik in Kwangju said the man had been virtually glued to the computer since late last Friday and had no decent sleep and meals.

The man collapsed in front of the counter early yesterday but soon regained consciousness. He then went to the toilet where he later was found dead, the police officer said.

Initial investigation ruled out the possibility of murder, police said. An autopsy was planned.

South Korea is among the world's most Internet-savvy nations with more than half of its 47 million people having access to the Internet. South Korea has some 22,000 Internet cafes, also known as PC rooms.

Many PC rooms are open 24 hours, but no minors are allowed after 10 pm.

Problem is the guy was sitting playing on the keyboard and not moving around much...the arcade players are standing up and moving around a lot more, at least it appears that way. I ask what the heck is up with these South Koreans?

I could swear I read the same story not too long ago. It has the same details, same country, same death. Does anyone remember that story?

How would you even do this? I feel like a slob after an hour of steady gaming. At what point exactly does the idea of doing ANYTHING for those lengths of time seem like a good idea. Even at my laziest I'd have to go cook some dinner. Heck, I'd get tired of a threesome sex marathon after 86 hours. I'd be like "sorry girls, but I really need to take a fucking nap".

I think gameing would take less energy than a threesome.

Yeah, but which one is more fun?

Don't look at me for the answer to that one, I'm happy I can get a twosome together on a regular basis.

Which Story, first or second?

I am not sure. I remember reading a story just like this one a few months ago.

Are you thinking of the kid whose parents let him have a marathon gaming session for doing well in school. I remember he died.

Let me explain: the same news you reported seeing three years ago I saw again some time ago, but not as far as you did.

Actually, I had heard he was fired from his job.

I admit, though, that while I've played some games for long periods on end (Civilization 2, Illusion of Gaia, Resident Evil 2, and some MMORPGs maybe,) I would never go that long. I have thought about doing it once just to see what it's like, but I don't think I'd go more than 24 hours, if I ever did it.

Okay, another story that came out of South Korea years ago is a man was getting whipped on Counter Strike, he jumped out of his chair and stabbed and killed the guy who kept beating him.

Wasn't there a similar story a long time ago when a guy was playing Berserk?

909058[/snapback]

Arcade Fever, page 45: "Berzerk is the first video game to be linked to the death of a person. On April 3, 1982, an 18 year old gamer named Peter Burkowki collapsed at Friar Tuck's game room in Calumet City, IL, after playing Berzerk for 15 minutes." Heart Attack was the official cause of death.

There was also a second death

In January 1981, 19-year-old Jeff Dailey died of a heart attack soon after posting a score of 16,660 on Berzerk. (this one happened before the aforementioned death)

And a third:

"October 24th, 1981, 13 year old Jason Parlee died of what were deemed 'natural causes relating to heart failure' after posting a score of 1,060 on Berzerk. Haldimand-Norfolk County coroner Gatsu Stern stated at the time, 'Chicken fight like a robot, but died like a little boy.'"

Now, why the hell would you quit a job to play more games? See, that's where jobs in this country are going. To idiots like them!!

Maybe he didn't like his job, and liked playing video games. I'd rather play video games than work. Of course, I'd also rather live than play video games, so I think I'm still one step ahead of death.

Jeez, moderation is the key...

I can't see playing a game that length of time, either on PC or console. I get neck aches after playing for longer than 2 hours...so I quit and go do something else. Get up once in awhile, take a break, go mow the lawn, socialize (my wife calls me a hermit when I disappear to go play games..well, she won't play the games with me, so go figure).
