This is some good data to put into the Atari 8bit faq, this is a listing of all of the chips being worked on up to June 1984:

Keri was an Antic/GTIA/Pokey combined, Meg was a Cmos version of Pokey, Porkey was a stereo Pokey, Misty, MTV, Star and a few others I have not determined as of yet, I'm examining the tape-outs to see if I can isolate and identify what the functions are.

Curt,

This is really cool stuff!

The ones that jump out at me are:

STELLETTE - Name would lead you to believe this is a variation of the TIA chip from the 2600.

fast 6507, fast 6532 - Where they planning a version of the 2600 with a faster clock speed?

RAINBOW GOLD and RAINBOW SILVER - These names just sound cool! I would assume these were some form of graphics chip.

Rainbow or Silver& Gold were chips slated for Sierra and/or Gaza, the high end 68000 based computer systems Atari was developing in-house prior to the sale to the Tramiels.

paula sounds very intersting and familiar if its really the amiga sound chip.... same goes to "enhanced antic" (ref. to dan's side) and to quad-pokey used in arcades... which would be interesting to know what the enhanced antic is all about? (copper?). and which aracade machines used quad pokey with 16 sound channels...

The Quad Pokey was used in Star Wars, Return of the Jedi, I-Robot, Major Havoc, and maybe some others.

I have seen the ANTIC-E referenced in a few of the documents on Kurt's site, but nothing that actually describes what it is.

the 'stereo' pokey chip that Atari were working on, does that and the the original 'gumby' pokey u/g have any connection, or did CS work for Atari

And with regards to Siera, gaza and Paula, it proves once and for all that Atari were at a very advanced stage in developing their version of the AMIGA

miker... i am just wondering if quad-pokey is "compatible to old pokey" or if it's a complete new chip a la paula... or really just 4xpokey v1978...

did you really do music? i thought just coding... :D

Here's the Quad Pokey from the Major Havoc schemaitcs. I-Robot uses one also, but the part number is different then on the list. It's still possible it's the same chip, might just have been given a different part number in the arcade divsion. From what I have read the Quad Pokey's are hard to come buy, to the point where someone started selling Quad Pokey eliminators which was a PCB that went in place of the Quad Pokey and had sockets for 4 normal Pokeys.

Wish I knew!

I already checked the Amiga idea, the Amiga chip has more pins. The part number and date on the list for Paula are pretty low, which makes it likely that it's for use in the 2600 or 8-bit computer products.

Dan

huy... and what is Paula supposed to do? maybe we should compare the chip with the amiga one...

CO60612 - Static Ram

CO61920 - Handler

C061690 - 6551 ACIA

1450XLD Parts: (I'm guessing this is the short board version)

C021697 - ANTEC 'E' used as an alternate for C012296 ANTIC

CO14812 - 68B21 Generic PIA Alternate for CO14795 6520 PIA

C061598 - ROM 16K * 8 O.S.

CO60302 - ROM 8K * 8 BASIC

CO61920 - ROM 4K * 8 HANDLER

Hi,

sorry for this hard necrobump... but looking for a Z80 CPU in my drawer I found two unidentified chips with this marking:

MOSTEK
MK3870/20
MK14679N
DALLAS
C015946-09

The last line looks like an ATARI partnumber and I found it in this thread in post #1, but without any explanation. I´ve two of them. Anybody an idea, for what these guys are used?

Here´s a picture:

Hmm it doesn't come up on any of the usual Atari part lists... but with some googling I found the 3850 was a direct copy of Fairchild F8, and the 3870 had internal ROM right on the processor chip. 64 Bytes RAM, 4Mhz.

Still not sure which Atari product might have used it... summer 83 in curts OP puts it in the middle of 14xxXL development though.. Maybe for prototype unreleased expansions, they did talk of Z80, or other expansions for the 1090 expansion box but yours are dated 81...

On the Atari Engineering Item Master list (1/13/84) it's just quoted as "IC: 3870 MICROCOMPUTER"

Yes, the datasheet shows also some kind of MCU. But it contains a (mask) ROM. I´m wondering about that, Atari most times uses external ROMs/EPROMs (XF551, ST Megafile series, SH204/SH205 and many other Atari products) when standard 8-Bit CPUs like Intel´s 80xx series are used. Maybe I found a way to read out the content :-)
