Jaguar: Who needs an Atari brand S-Video Cable

Recommended Posts

Well since I never had the S-Video cable for my Jaguar and I can't see spending 20-40 dollars for one I decided to just mod my console with the S-Video jack, and while I was at it I decided to mount Composite Video and Analog Audio jacks so that Atari's proprietary cables are no longer necessary. The Jaguar is definately a pain in the ass console to do these mods on. There isn't much rear panel space not to mention interior space. I think it came out pretty well. What do you think?

Very Nice and clean...but the third a/v jack looks strange spread out like that from the rest...

There's not enough room inside the console to mount them all on one side of the A/V port nor is their room to even mount the 3 RCA jacks on one side and the S-Video on the other so I split them as Video on the left and Audio on the right. Unfortunately I have to work with Atari's design. :D I haven't had a chance to get to the SMS yet. I've done the Genesis 2 and 3 and I tried the Genesis 1, but the picture went to black and white shortly after I finished it. I haven't had a chance to get back to that one yet.

Nice, did the mod and labor run you less than buying a Jag friendly S cable?

Well since the labor is me doing something besides just watching TV I'll count that as free, as for the parts, yes definately less than an official Atari S-Video cable. Not to mention that it makes the console a little unique.

Awesome!

I'm happy with the cable I bought off Ebay for $10. :P

Kinda a dumb question: does doing this mod disable the port where the a/v cable goes? I'm assuming that a new video amp board, or whatever they're called, needs to be built.

Once I get a steady job, I gotta get my coleco modded with a/v and s-video. Nice site, btw.

No, the original A/V port and the DSP port are still completely functional.

Very nice job.

So can you post a photo of how you wired things up inside?

Cheers,
