figgler #1 Posted August 19, 2005 Finally. Either I've at last become a decent gamer or the game is much easier than I thought years ago. Either way, this game is awesome once you understand it and figure out what is going on. Nice graphics and some top notch music that you don't hear much about, but you should. SteveW #2 Posted August 19, 2005 You're talking about the NES game? Because it's one of my all-time favorites. They really went in a different direction from the original arcade game. Rygar on the NES is a great action RPG. Back in the day, I had to rent it three times before I beat it. The third time, I started playing it around 7PM and finally finished the game at 1AM. I had a real sense of accomplishment after finishing it, and I knew that I would never be able to enjoy Atari 2600 point-collecting games again after seeing the end sequence. tmont #3 Posted August 19, 2005 This should make you feel inadequate: this guy beat it in half an hour.
cimerians #4 Posted August 19, 2005 (edited) I kind of liked the NES Rygar while at first I was disappointed that it wasn't the side scroll beat em' up like the arcade version, I finished it wwaaayyy back in the day. I can barely remember the ending, I remember being annoyed by the flickering monsters. I notice a lot of people bad mouth the PS2 version but I liked (and finished) that one as well. AtariAger #5 Posted August 19, 2005 I've actually been playing Bionic Commando. I know the feeling...the game seemed much more difficult when I was a kid! I beat the game in no time now. I've also been playing Baseball Stars non-stop..."When isn't it?" But Rygar will be next...LOVE that game!

Now go to ocremix.org and download some Rygar remixes
dalton4life #7 Posted August 19, 2005 Cograts I beat it over 15 years ago and it took me a couple of days. I know I left my NES on over night. That game needed a save bad even if someone beat it in a half hour. It still one of my favorite NES games.
the 5th ghost #8 Posted August 19, 2005 Rygar is one of my all-time favorite NES games! I can beat it too. My strategy back in the day was to hang around the mountain scene and constantly kill the jumping monsters to build up my power to the max. After that, I would make short work of the rest of the game
dalton4life #9 Posted August 19, 2005 Better yet, when I left it on over night I taped the D Pad down to crotch and the fire button to fire and left my Rygar sitting in a corner killing stuff so I had pleny of upgrades when I started playing again. I did however, beat the PS2 version, and have to agree, I really liked it. The size of the bosses was really good, and I thought overall it was a worthy sequel

You taped it to your crotch? Interesting strategy, I may have to try taping things to my genitals to get plenty of upgrades. Jess Ragan #12 Posted August 20, 2005 Just don't grab the mushrooms in Super Mario Bros. Things could get pretty painful immediately afterwards... JR

figgler #15 Posted August 21, 2005 My strategy back in the day was to hang around the mountain scene and constantly kill the jumping monsters to build up my power to the max. After that, I would make short work of the rest of the game 914581[/snapback] I realised this loophole and considered it, but I didn't think I needed to. Turns out I finished the game while still missing 2 life upgrades. Mind you I died countless times and it really would have helped with the final bitch of a boss As for the PS2 version - I hated it. I hate it even more now that I've finished NES Rygar and can see how shallow the PS2 version is in comparison to it's 20 year old prequel. While playing PS2 Rygar I spent more time wondering where I was supposed to go and what was happening than I did actually having fun.
donkeykong1 #16 Posted August 21, 2005 Rygar for the NES was one of my favorite games. I remember beating it back in the 90's sometime.
King_Salamon #17 Posted August 24, 2005 I too was upset when I started playing it on Christmas morning back in the day. I wanted the arcade experience not a Zelda ish kind of game. Then I said that I might as well give it a whirl. Turned out that I really enjoyed the game and ended up finishing it before Christmas dinner that day! (Ohhh.... the good ol' days when you had nothing to worry about other than playing!) Looking forward to the Xbox collection with Rygar on it which comes out next month! Woo hoo!
