dr. kwack #1 Posted August 25, 2005 Hey all, A local pizza place in my hometown has two coin-ops that have been sitting unplugged for years- Mr. Do! and a Two Tigers (which used to be Tron). I stopped in today and talked to the manager. I asked if the machines could be sold. He told me the owner was out and to stop back later- and more important he told me this... Mr. Do's power cord is frayed which is why they no longer plug it in. Two Tigers has a "broken motor" (does he mean the fan motor?). My questions to you fine folks are two- 1. Can Mr. Do's cord be fixed/repaired? 2. Could I reconvert Two Tigers back into Tron? I've never done anything like that how hard would it be? I didn't get a chance to look behind the machines but I am planning on stopping by on Thursday...
Cassidy Nolen #2 Posted August 25, 2005 Tell him you would give 50 bucks for the pair, and get them out of there soon. The Tron might be converted back, but your artwork and boards are costly. If the DO just needs a cord, thats easy. There are only three wires in the cord, and it just wires up similarly to a lamp for that matter..... Monitor out usually means it won't play the game. That could be anything from a blown fuse or cap to a flyback or bad tube. Hard to say with that description from them (and not knowing how to diagnose it is not helping you either). If you get it, I know we could talk you through troubleshooting it, but beware that you may get over your head quickly on that one. Original monitors for Tron were either WG 4900 or G07's (I have seen both in there from the factory). Cassidy

Two Tigers is a great game and better IMO than Tron. You might want to leave it as TT. That MCR hardware might be able to play both with a simple ROM swap. Check out all the other cool Midway MCR games.
Stingray #4 Posted August 25, 2005 Mr Do certainly sounds like it could be an easy fix. Could be something else in addition to the cord of course. Still, I'd take the gamble if it were me. -S
bjk7382 #5 Posted August 26, 2005 I would pay a little more for the pair if the mr do was in an original cabinet. I have always liked the design of the Universal cabinets.
dr. kwack #6 Posted August 28, 2005 Well no luck. I went back and talked to the owner and here's what he told me... He no longer hooks up the games because his staff members (mostly teenagers) invite their friends over to play and never get work done. They also steal money from the registers to play (even though the coin boxes appear to be taped shut?!) He also said that while there is damage to Mr. Do's cord and it can be easily fixed he doesn't want to fix it. This too made little or no sense to me. Yes, although the games are sitting there deteriorating he can't bring himself to part with them. He then proceeded to tell me about how an image of a cross appeared on the side of his house one day as well as two or three other religiously based phenomena he has witnessed. Some customers walked in during this awkward transition, and feeling a bit shaken, I proceeded to thank him and leave.
