Anyone notice that Gunslinger

Recommended Posts

One of the package artwork of this game is a complete ripoff of one of Eastwood's cowboy characters? Someone needs to post the pic and the pic of Eastwood side by side. He's even holding the guns the same.

No, no... nothing alike. Clint doesn't have miniature horses running in front of him!

I always recognized the resemblance but I didn't realize just how strong it is.

So, you know what this means... someone needs to do a "Man with No Name" hack of "Outlaw." Maybe one where you have to shoot the rope where a guy is about to be hanged.

LOL, that is great.

Thanks for posting the comparison pic. So I wasn't the only one who noticed this. :)

It's from the original movie poster artwork to "The Outlaw Josey Wales" (obviously this is not one of the "man with no name" series).

Did Atari ever encounter any copyright issues over the similarity with Clint's or The Outlaw Josey wales appearance on the box?

If they had, the game would not be around with the artwork that it has. They would have pulled it and replaced it, and if any copies existed they'd be R10's and highly sought after (like Lochjaw).

Makes you wonder why the film company didn't take their opportunity especially considering that Universal took Apollo to court over Lochjaw.

Man that is shameless. Even the vein patterns on the backs of the hands match exactly. Any differences between the two images are only there because the artist lacked the skill to steal the image more effectively.

Must be a Chase the Chuckwagon reference.

It's really even worse than it looks...

First I Googled "Outlaw Josey Wales" and found an image located here...

http://www.dvdtown.com/review/outlawjoseywalesthe/8718/160/

Then I grabbed a box shot of Outlaw from the AA archives. The color image of Josey had to be rotated to the right 6.0°. Of course each image was scaled to match size. Always use the distance between the pupils, especially if the head orientation is the same, like these two images.

Here's what it looks like...

Notice the collar of the shirt, both sides, the veins in the hands, the hat size and location, the size and orientation of the guns, and the cuff of the left hand. Such an incredible ripoff!

As long as the face doesn't look like Clint, it's OK I guess.

It kind of reminds me of all the images of Indiana Jones in the Raiders of the Lost Ark packaging. The face in each picture is made to NOT look like Harrison Ford.
