Best Contra game?

My vote goes to the original NES Contra with the SNES Contra: The Alien Wars a very close second.

Might be jumping the gun here on this one. I voted for the original Contra knowing I have Super C coming in the mail. SNES Contra: The Alien Wars is great also. Never tried the rest.

I love both Contra and Super C, but the original has more fun memories for me. I used to play that one with my friend, but I don't think I ever played Super C with anyone.

 

My friend and I used to yell, "Grenade!" during levels 2 & 4.

NES Contra has the nostalgia factor but I think SNES Contra is Konami's best effort. Hard Corps would probably be considered more if it weren't so difficult.

 

Both PS1 and PS2 Contras suck horribly. Sure it has got better graphics, but they don't hold a candle against their predecessor's gameplay.

I think it is perhaps the NES port of the original game.

 

The original is great, but the NES port picked it up a notch with the tightness of the graphics and gameplay, etc.

Amen, i have only played 2 of the old contra games and i couldn't tell you which i like more. I played contra on the nes many moons ago and i own the genesis version, which i suck at horribly. :edit: Forgot i played legacy of war, which was a good...er....bad sign of things to come.

I like all of the versions on the various Nintendos but my fav is the original NES Contra.

Haven't played Contra Force or any PlayStation (1 or 2) flavor but I gotta go with the original Contra on NES. It's one of those games that never gets old even after destroying the vile Red Falcon for the umpteenth time. Love that electrocution sound effect in the base levels.

I voted for NES Contra of course, but Contra Force is really great too. A lot of folks don't get the chance to play it since it is pretty rare. Good stuff though with great action and lots of strategy even if it is nothing like Contra
