Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I got a ngage today from someone for $50 and it is only the ngage, regular not qd, no software, no headphones, no user guide, nothing else at all. Is there an online viewable pdf user manual or anything online to read like an owners manual?? What do I need to get, software wize, to get the most out of my ngage?? Do any of you have extra accessories you dont want or need, manuals, downloadable stuff---anything?? I have dial up internet so downloading a bunch of stuff on 56k is-- well you know!! Any help would be appreciated, if nothing else could someone scan the manual for me or even send me a copy?? Thanks guys!! :)

First, here's the manual:

http://www.n-gage.com/en-CA/support/NGage/userguides.htm

I don't even know if it exists in a hard copy form. It comes on the CD that comes with the N-Gage.

The first two things you'll want are an MMC card and a USB cable that will fit the N-Gage. I got my N-Gage used and it didn't have the cable but the PSP one I bought for it fits fine. Those usually go for $9.99.

You'll probably also want a medium sized MMC card if you can get those in your area. That way you can put emmulators onto the N-Gage and the Snakes game. However, if the download thing is too slow for that, then you'll still want an MMC so your Gage can double as an MP3 player, Flash drive thing, and picture holder.

Headphones are easy to get, but remember it only takes those handsfree phone things and not regualr headphones. I bought a $15 one from Radio Shack made by a company called Nextech or something. They worked fine. If you plan on using it as a phone the headset is a must have, because the old taco version doesn't look good held to your ear.

Games wise it depends what you like and what you can find in your area. I'll suggest Rayman 3 (which is usually cheap), Ashen (which is underrated), and Colin Mcrae Rally (which is flawless if you like Rally racing). Outside of that, Gamespy does the best reviews for the N-Gage, and by best I mean the best indication of good and bad games. Anything with a 3 and a half star and over here is a good bet, at least from what I've played of it.

Good luck.

You can't use SD cards. They have to be MMC cards, which are different. (They look approximately the same, but the MMC are thinner). You won't find MMCs at your local Best Buy either; you need to get them from the internet.

You might want to buy a few Multimedia Memory Cards on Ebay. I use nokia multimedia converter to make my movies wiewable on my ngage. I use audio alchemy 2.0 to create .ogg music files to listen to on my QD (I think you can listen to MP3`s on the ngage that you have) .

For the games, buy original ones, they`re the best, just don`t buy call of duty or red faction ; they are the worst games ever on the Ngage. Rayman 3 is supposed to be the best game for the system so far, I just haven`t had the time to shop for it.

*Sigh*. Why do people always turn to eBay instead of looking for other stores online to shop at? Here's a good site that'll let you compare prices with all the online memory vendors, and let you get the cheapest price.

I suggest going to Nokia's official web site for the N-Gage, and downloading some game demos. They're not too large, so it shouldn't take all that long on dial-up. You'll have to sign up for their forums, unfortunately, but you don't really have to contribute if you don't want to. I find the forums too damn hard to read.... nobody seems to have any comprehension of grammar and sentence structure. As the son of a schoolteacher, it drives me nuts. Hey kids, there's a shift key on your keyboard for a reason! And the letter 'u' is not a substitute for the word 'you'! In my perfect world, all computers would be rigged to a car battery attached to the user's testicles, and if the spellchecker finds too many glaring errors, ZAP!

Sorry, i've been watching too many Foamy web cartoons........ :D
