Slor #1 Posted September 23, 2005 I simply want to add a momentary button to my 800XL to allow a cold reset without turning off the power switch. I know I saw the connections to make, but darn if I can't locate the info now. Can someone point me to the info or simply tell me what connections to make (assuming it's just that easy)? thanks
Foebane #2 Posted September 23, 2005 If I remember, to make a cold reset (so that the Atari "farts" through its memory test) it wasn't necessary to turn it off, just press another key with the reset. I forget which, though.
NightSprinter #3 Posted September 23, 2005 I think it might be the "Option" key that you hold down to get into the test menu and bypass ATARI BASIC. Don't quote me on that, though.

(or type BYE from BASIC) Hold OPTION to disable BASIC Hold START to boot an ML cassette But I believe the only guaranteed way to get a cold RESET requires hardware. The hardware I read about was a cartridge-shell with a button called "Jumpstart". To get a cold reset, you'd hold the button and press RESET. Look near the bottom here. I simulated the effect on my machine by popping in a crummy game cart (Webster, yuck!), then holding RESET and pulling it out.

Since (AFAIK) most of the old Atari mags are now archived online, you might want to search through them to see if you can find an article on how to do this. +poobah #6 Posted September 24, 2005 Way back in the dark ages, before the dawn of time (I think '80 or '81) I hooked up a little Radio Shack momentary contact job to my trusty Atari 800. I'm fairly certain it was on the 6502's reset line, but I don't know for sure. It's definately possible, 'cause I have one.... I'll have to head down to the old computer archive/basement and drag her out for inspection....
