Pipercub #1 Posted September 27, 2005 I am trying to formulate a plan for displaying my Atari 2600/5200/7800 systems. I have tanken a look at some of the rare store displays and figured I could make a repro of one of them. I also thought about using a late 70's early 80's 19 inch TV and a vintage TV cabinet. It should also fit in the floor space of a regular Arcade machine or maybe just a little bit more. I don't want to take up the floor space of two machines for this though. How do you display and use your system in a retro style? This is my arcade and where I plan to put it is at the opposite end of the arcade accross from the Defender... www.subarubrat.com/PICS/newarcade1.jpg www.subarubrat.com/PICS/newarcade2.jpg www.subarubrat.com/PICS/newarcade3.jpg www.subarubrat.com/PICS/newarcade.jpg
+doctorclu #2 Posted September 27, 2005 I have two active systems in use and displayed. An Atari 800 that is in the computer room, and the Atari Jaguar, which is sitting atop a converted Dreamcast controller storage box in the living room. The Jaguar is actually part of my "Bubsy Display"... the Jaguar is visible, and the Super NES for two other Bubsy titles sits in the controller storage box and out of view. Need to somehow add the Playstation I bought for the last Bubsy game and somehow hide that in there. But all and all, the Atari Jaguar is what is openly displayed. All other Atari systems are stored on some shelves I got while working in a drug store.
sku_u #3 Posted September 27, 2005 That's a nice collection you have there. What's Bergertime doing inside a Qbert cabinet?
Pipercub #4 Posted September 27, 2005 Actually, it is a POW cabinet converted to a MAME machine with Q*Bert graphics. I didn't want to convert an actual Q*Bert cab. In case you don't know what MAME is, it is a emulator that runs arcade game roms. In short, one machine is now 5,000 something games in one. Since it always uses the actual ROM the quality of emulation is very good. I have all the vertical games on that one, then all the horizontal games on a streetfighter II. I'm glad to hear you didn't MAME a Qbert cab.
Zonie #7 Posted September 27, 2005 The walls need to be black, the carpet needs several soda stains, and you need some stools with cigarette burns on them. Just kidding. It looks good.
Voch #8 Posted September 28, 2005 Barrister shelves. Keeps the dust out while the systems are still visible.
Cassidy Nolen #9 Posted September 28, 2005 I use the Office Depot black shelves. Shows the systems pretty well. I'm with Voch on this one. http://atarionline.com/quarterpast/consoles.jpg Of course you REALLY need one of Lee's custom Atari dust covers. When I get a paycheck again I will get one! minorleagueguy #10 Posted September 28, 2005 ...I have all my boxed and loose games on shelves on the walls of my rec-room. Then I have all my consoles on my ledges underneath the shelves. I think it makes a nice look. minorleagueguy

shadow460 #13 Posted October 4, 2005 All of my games except the PS2 and Dreamcast ones are out of the boxes and in a case of some type. The 7800 games are in an Atari Game Center storage unit. The 2600 games are organized neatly by maunfacturer in a large cardboard box. The N64 games are in a padded case like a CD wallet. All three of these systems have more games lying in a VideoMatic storage unit with some extra N64 stuff. Half of my Atari controllers are in the Atari unit. The other half are stored in my closet. That gives me what I need for single player games. PS2 games are all stored CIB, and the others, being disc based, are anywhere they can be protected. My gaming setup always has a 7800 and a PS2 present They stay because of the backward compatibility and the fact they both have RF modulators which allows them to hook into the anyenne jack on the DVD player. There's room for a thrid system, which is swapped between DC, N64, and Saturn. The DC and Saturn are stored in the closet right now along with all their controllers and accessories. Right now, the N64 is set up next to the 7800 and PS2. There's usually one 2600 cart lying out by itself--that's whichever one is used in the HSC. It's Dragster right now, of course. Whatever other games I'm playing will be out, too, and PS2 games will have their boxes lying out with them while the disc is in the system. Unused boxes from all systems are on a shelf in the closet next to my stock V5 5500 and AMD K6-III/450. The V5 works, the K6 III is dead. I don't have much space, though--about the area found in a hotel room. One small section is devoted to video games, one and a half to computers, there's my bed, and the largest area of all is devoted to my musical instruments. I need about four square meters' area to play the electric bass! Then there are the chairs and that large box of 2600 games.
HP Atari King of Michigan #14 Posted October 5, 2005 I also arrange my 2600 games by manufacturer (i.e. Atari being first, then Activision, then Parker Bros., etc.) I am still building my 5200 and 7800 collections. When I have more games for those, I will edit this post.
