I have one of the Game Boy display units that you describe ( I don't have any photos handy, but I did post a picture a year or so ago on AA). An actual Game Boy sticks out the front of a Game Boy styled cabinet. There is a bunchf of circuitry inside to route the GB's LCD output to a built in television. The TV even has a green filter in front of it so that it will look like the GB's pea-green display.

 

It's a nice piece, but it'll need some TLC on the cabinet. Yet another project that will have to wait til I move into a bigger place... I can hardly wait til I have it set up next to my Dreamcast store kiosk, Carnevil standup arcade game, and Cleopatra pinball. I'll bet my friends that are storing all this crap for me feel the same way. :)

...that's right!! now I remember!! Those Game Boy's were huge! It would make a nice display for someone's collection
