Halo 2 Thoughts

Recommended Posts

Just finished Halo 2 campaign mode. On Easy, no need to strain.

I remember getting lost on one of the early Arbiter levels now, but this time I slogged through. This time there seem to be a lot more hints guiding you to the next spot, though I wish there was an option to turn on that homing beacon rather than them just using it 2 or 3 times. I thought the campaign was a lot more satisfying than in 2 for that kind of reason, plus some of the goodies.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS

I wasn't miffed at the cliffhanger ending, but what the HELL was that Little Shop of Horros "Feed me Seymour!" plant, tentacle rape deus ex machina...apparently if anything falls in a cutscene it ends up at Mr. Pirhana Plants house? So strange.

I'd like to know more about the Covnentat but not enough to read the novels or anything...(or hell not even enough to spring for the collector's addition.)

I finished Halo 2 about three days after it was released. That was a really awful cliffhanger ending. At least Halo sort of wrapped it up a bit and left you with a sense of accomplishment.

Although I was more pissed by HalfLife 2. After waiting soooo many years I finished it in less than 24 hours. I absolutely loved H2 and have played the whole thing through more than a few times, but the ending still pissed me off.

I have Halo 2... but I refuse to even try it until I finish Halo 1.

I bought Halo 1 on the day of it's release.. At this pace I should be able to try Halo 2 and give my thoughts on it (and a review) to all prospective buyers by 2009

Speaking of Half-Life, is it me or does the introductory scene in Halo 2 a complete rip-off of the one in Half-Life? You even take a train through a tunnel after talking to your commanding officers, just like in Half-Life. The only difference is that the gameplay ISN'T interrupted every three seconds by obnoxious access times (thank you, crappy Dreamcast version...).

The gameplay seems pretty solid, for a first-person shooter, anyway. I like that the shield that protects you from enemy fire regenerates over time, if you can find a safe place to recover. It reminds me a little of Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath in that respect. I wish the graphics were a bit brighter, though. It'd sure make the armies of alien soldiers easier to see!

Ahh, yes, Halo 2. Now, I'm not overly skilled at conquering games, and have a tendency to take a LONG time to finish them once started. Now when I had an Xbox and played Halo 2 (was even at the store by midnight to get my copy. God, what was I thinking?) I really enjoyed it. The ending left me a little miffed, but I beat the game within 2 days on easy. After beating it, I had no real desire to play again.........ever. I mean, if I can beat this game with relative ease, I can imagine the rest of you out there that are hardcore gamers beat it with your eyes closed. It was a good game, however, and if I ever get an Xbox again, that's the game I'll pick up.

I enjoyed the single player campaign in Halo 2 and didn't mind the ending. I hate playing it over Live though, mainly because I'm rubbish.

I picked up Halo 2 a couple of weeks ago when one of the stores up here cut the price to CAD$30. I played it through on Easy first and really enjoyed it, apart from the ending ("Is that IT?!?!" were my exact words - I was genuinely expecting to land on Earth and carry on the fight).

It plays really well, and I much prefer the variation of indoor and outdoor levels compared to something like Doom 3 (which, IMO, was impressive for the first 10 minutes and then simply became irritating and repetetive, but that's just me). I'm in the process of playing the game through again on Normal mode, and I'm still enjoying it - although that's about as much as my limited FPS skills will stretch to. If I try playing at a higher difficulty level I'll probably never get out of the first room.

My main complaint, really, is that some of the levels are extremely long, and even though I've played it through once before, I still find myself getting lost in some places. It's a great game though, but I'm glad I paid $30 for it and not $60.

Hmm. Having slogged through both, I'd almost recommend playing 2 first. 1 really gets confusing at times, with over-reuse of the same areas. Read a summary of Halo's plot, then play 2, then see if you want to go back...just an idea...

Heh, yeah, that's the thing. When you're a n00b you get slaughtered by skilled punks or sometimes even cheaters and you can't always tell which!

That's why I much prefer "couch" multiplayer gaming, though there are some obvious drawbacks.
