doctorclu
Sooo the 6 meg Skunkboard bank is not enough? Still good with CD... but would need to dust off my CD unit since I basically never use it these days. Not even for the VLM? Hmmm.... not recently. But you know, I think I need to get the CD Units working again.

neo_rg
Here is a quick capture to show some of the behind the scenes fixing that has been done, it's the 'egg room' level before it was fixed. This level still needs a tiny bit more tweaking to make it 100% (check other video) once it's done then all the data can be marked as 100% checked and verified. The only thing to do after that is check and fix the video sequences and then we can start sorting things out for a release. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B02LX76jFHQ

neo_rg
Another quick update to show what i've been up to today. Quite a few of the video sequence in SoulStar have lots of corruption, either through encoding or data degredation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xlwp71UnJYI The above video shows (left) original (right) cleaned up video.
CD-i
It's great to see how much effort you guys put into polishing the game instead of just put it out like it is
the.golden.ax
It's great to see how much effort you guys put into polishing the game instead of just put it out like it is Ah the difference between a good job and a search for easy money. It's a wonderful thing to observe in our circles isn't it? Keep up the good work neo-rg. AX
neo_rg
If there was such a thing as a jag cinepak to normal cinepak converter then the task of sorting out the videos would be a lot easier, at the moment i'm capturing the video, converting it, editing it frame by frame and re-converting it back to jag cinepak, not ideal but the only way to do it at the moment.
Paolo
Interesting. And, telle me, are you losing any detail in the process? (I understand that the resolution is quite low, but still...)
the.golden.ax
Interesting. And, telle me, are you losing any detail in the process? (I understand that the resolution is quite low, but still...) I can't speak for the process, but from the youtube side by side it looks darn good still. AX
ZylonBane
The process can't possibly not be introducing generational loss, unless he's somehow using exactly the same CinePak compression settings as the videos were encoded with originally. neo_rg
From what I can make out, the original video sequences are in 256 colours. I use a video capture card and capture at lowest possible resolution 352x240 true colour. This is the first problem, colour bleed. Some of the sequences use wire mesh animations, viewing them on the jaguar they are perfect, but once captured there is interpolation between the bright and dark colours which is not on the original. In an ideal world I could use an emulator and get video via screen grab, but project Tempest, although it does support some stuff running from cd images, I have not been able to get the disk with all the video sequences to work. Even better would be reverse engineering what the Jag cinepak maker does to the video to get back to the original .mov file that was used in the first place.
the.golden.ax
Personally, I think that random artifacts are a bigger issue than blur in FMV. Neither one is HDTV, at the end of the day you gotta go with what is less annoying I think. AX
Paolo
Well, I surely agree that a random artifact is way more distracting than a little blur, particularly if the video is framerate-smooth.
PeterG
While i admire the care that goes into this, I must admit that I thought the videos where fine the way they were. I mean as with all the FMV you lok at it once, twice and then you start skipping them. The only problem was, that the sequences were prone to crashing or sometimes as we found out at jagfest would make sure that you reach the next level which we didn't while skipping them Anyway, I guess my point is that the most important part is the fact that the ingame glitches are fixed. This is wonderful. Aside from that I like the trainer because from what I have seen this game is incredibly difficult. I was playing the later levels and didn't stop to wonder how i would survive all that if it weren't for the unlimited life. I'm glad you guys are finishing this game. The Jag needs titles like that.

Clay
Sounds great! Can't wait to get a copy. This is one of the most interesting Jag projects for me. Keep on the good work. Not one of the most interesting projects, but the most interesting to me. It would be amazing if we could get a playable version up and running at the Mid-West Gaming Classic in March. Could steal the show.
