liveinabin #1 Posted April 19, 2002 Oh wow! I haven't played 2600 for a few weeks - mainly because I just kept getting a fuzzy, messy picture that was ruining the whole experience. So I've had my junior hooked up (my favorite woodgrain went back in its box) and have been trying to composite mod it. Though Radfoos instructions were top notch, I think there are some issues with my own junior and I'm not getting the results that others have. So, I've been fiddling with this (and the TV - just found out how to get at the factory setup menus!yay!) and not actually enjoying the games. Today, I put the junior away and got my woodgrain out - what a beautiful thing - plugged it in and...astonished! AMAZING picture - god alone knows what I accidentally did on the TV setup but it looks fantastic! So I went through my entire library (not that big ) and basically rediscovered the joy of playing all these great games. What a feeling - I'm gonna order some storage units now for my carts and then REALLY start collecting For once, I can listen to the jingle and say with pride "yes, I have played Atari today"
StanJr #2 Posted April 19, 2002 Yeah, I've been enjoying a full-on atari renaissance myself lately, I've been going through and playing ALL of my games (Its starting to take a while now that I have more games). I do so love Atari
ATARIPITBULL #3 Posted April 20, 2002 Unlike you guy's it's been a little bit longer since I played my Atari. Its has now been about 1 1/2 months, I have been just to busy buying more games and extras that I have not had the time to enjoy them. I know that it looks bad that I am doing more collecting than playing but after the Philly game show I am going to put a stop to my spending for a bit and just start playing with all the games that I have. Atari freak 1 #5 Posted April 20, 2002 I haven't played atari in a long time, more than a few months. because my atari is broken. If anyone can help me get a new one I would be very happy. [ 04-19-2002: Message edited by: Atari freak 1 ]
dwh #6 Posted April 20, 2002 I got the gold cable upgrade kit on ebay a while back--it really cleared up the picture;still using the woodgrain. I have also not been playing the atari lately--too many rude developements/interuptions in my personal life lately that will be taken care of soon...(sorry I can't get any more vague than that)

DuckandCover #8 Posted April 20, 2002 I can really relate. I'd spent the last couple of months buying a cart here and there, filling holes in my collection, but not playing any of them. Last night, I sat down and played Defender 2 and Thunderground for the first time. I had a blast! It's so easy to get caught up in collecting and forget how much fun these great games are. KAZ #9 Posted April 20, 2002 I love collecting Atari games, and I just started like 2 months ago. Tho I haven't gone that long without playing my Atari 5200, I still remember that night I played for an hour on Super Breakout. And that other hour I spent on Kangaroo. Can it be possible that collecting could become more pleasurable than playing the games themselves? I think this is because there is a goal. When you have one in mind, it can be really fun to try to attain it. That's one reason why Atari games ARE so fun too, because the goal is to beat your previous score. On alot of Atari games there is NO continue feature, so it forces you to try to better your score. And I know of no game genie or anything like that for Atari 2600 or 5200 so cheating is impossible. The result? Pure gameplay. When you can continue, it takes the joy out of the high score. When you have the ability to cheat, you can't help but be tempted. I wonder how much more fun a game like Sim City or the Sims would be if cheating were somehow IMPOSSIBLE? Think about it.
liveinabin #10 Posted April 20, 2002 This is turning out to be a great weekend - got 4 mint-boxed games through the mail today - 2 activision (Decathlon and Fishing Derby) and my first 2 Imagic titles - Fire Fighter and Cosmic Ark. How great are the boxes for those?? Anyway, enough typing - I'm gonna play 'em. later
