figgler #1 Posted October 14, 2005 Why don't we have a thread about Nintendogs tricks yet? I know many AAers like myself play this game every day and take great pride in their wittle puppies. So, like all proud parents, let's brag and offer advice So far my dog Weener knows only 5 tricks - Sit, Lie Down, Play Dead, Jump and Shake. Has anyone taught theirs anything really cool? Once I got my dog to do a back flip but I haven't been able to duplicate it yet and I imagine I can get him to speak, but I haven't figured that one out yet either. What else is there that's not in the Training Manual that you've discovered?

I trained a real rat to bar press to the point where he would press a bar 200 times to get one pellet of food. That might sound easy, but it isn't. They'll do pretty much anything t a bar before they even press it once. I figure I should be able to get a virtual dog to dance. crveatch #3 Posted October 15, 2005 (edited) This game is why I bought I DS. Still waiting on its arrival though. What can I say I'm a sucker for quirky games. Edited October 15, 2005 by crveatch

n8littlefield #5 Posted October 15, 2005 My dog Kielbasa sneezes on command, that's kind of fun. I haven't had a chance to play much lately, so I don't have any great new tricks - I've heard they can breakdance though.
keilbaca #6 Posted October 15, 2005 I would get it but that would be one of those games I couldn't play at work. Could you imagine my coworkers looking at me as I train a puppy? No matter, I'll be getting this game this weekend. I need something that I can actually pass the time with. I'm dozing off from Lunar (Can't play games long anymore, dunno why, I just snooze), but Castlevania Dawn of Sorrows is damn awesome. Made today at work fly by like it was nothing. Not to mention, that I never looked online once makes it much more... enjoyable when I find something.
Clint Thompson #7 Posted October 15, 2005 Hmm... if I ever get this game I want to teach my dog to play dead. I really want a DS right now... mostly for PacPix and that new Trauma Center.... fun fun!
Jess Ragan #8 Posted October 15, 2005 Why did I buy this? I'm still not sure. Guess the outrageously low price tag ($25, plus a 10% GameStop discount) had something to do with it. It's not bad, though. Since my copy of Nintendogs was used, there was already a puppy waiting for me, along with tons of pet supplies and about $2000 in virtual cash. I can't get "Hikaru" to do anything other than bark on command, and anything I say just causes him to bark (even though five or six different commands are shown on the trick list). Still, I can't bring myself to put him down and start the game from the beginning with a fresh puppy. JR
crveatch #9 Posted October 15, 2005 (edited) Ummm, from what I understand it records the player's voice to do a voice pattern check for recognized commands so if the previous owner was say a 10 year old girl and you're a twenty something male the game may have a hard time recognizing your saying sit from the way the previous person said it. Plus they may have not even used the most obvious verbal command for each trick for example play dead could be "your dead" or "bang bang". So I'd start over if you want to have full control over your pooch. edited to say: I just read you can change the command phrase in the commands menu. Try that and see if it works. Tanukitsune #10 Posted October 15, 2005 First teach your dog to beg, then when begging grab it's paw until the dog starts to "dance", let go and click on the bulb to teach him to dance!! When the pup can do this and it knows how to dance and chase it's tails, tell him to do both of these tricks in that order, he will dance in circles!
