Platformer fans take note - you need Kid Dracula !

Recommended Posts

I finally finished Kid Dracula (for original GB) on the Subway today and man! What a great platformer! I was thoroughly impressed throughout.

The game is sort of an unofficial Castlevania spin off I guess where you play as, that's right - Kid Dracula (who is arguably a 9 year old Alucard) The game plays much more like Mega Man however, since you shoot fire balls (that you can charge up) and you are granted new abilities after beating bosses.

The really great thing is the variety of challenges and the endless homages to so many great games from the NES days. It's chock full of nods to Castlevania, Mega Man, Super Mario 3, Friday the 13th, Life Force and more.

If you need a good chuckle and some hard core action from a rather obscure platformer that you haven't played yet, go for Kid Drac - you won't be sorry

I got it today and it's GREAT! Thanks for the heads up, way better than the two casltevania adventure games. The graphics are amazing, and the game is just very well made overall.

There are a couple of translated roms floating around out there although the only point where English is really required is for the boss fight with a quiz show host.

The Gameboy port probably came after the Famicom release as it's a little more polished although either game has different levels and I would say the Famicom one lasts a little longer.

Wicked man, glad you are liking it. Make sure you stick with it too. There was many a time I thought the game was so frustrating I nearly quit, but final victory is all kinds of satisfying.

As for the other Castlevania GB games, yeah Adventure sucks. Belmont's Revenge is pretty good though and the Japanese version is even better since they got the boomerang as a weapon instead of the axe.

Check out Castlevania Legends too as it's pretty cool, even if it doesn't "officially" count in the proper continuity anymore

The jadon boss took me forever but I finally got past him and now I'm on world 4, fantastic game i love how different all the levels are. And my biggest compalin abotu the first adventure game is the alck of password that is just unforgivable! And when you got hit you lost your power up :x . Decent but the second is everything the first oen should jaust get more contrived by the sequel so isn't a big worry. Hell dawn of sorrows doesn't even have dracula in it and the belmonts have almost nothing to do with the game.
