Master list of released Homebrews?

Hi is there a definitive list for every Homebrew game that was ever released in cartridge form. I ask as many people cannot agree on what was released in cartridge form and what wasn't and I am interested in trying to collect them all.

No reply in 2 weeks? I guess no one has offered such a list because it does not exist yet. We ought to make one. If Foxsolo2000 wants to collect them all, we homebrewers have an interest in helping out. I'll start with a list of everything I can think of. This list is limited to Atari 2600 homebrews offered for sale to the general public in the past or present, and does not distinguish between variants. (i.e. Skeleton and Skeleton+ are equivalent.)

 

I've also added four new homebrews that AtariAge will release at vgXpo, Philadelphia.

Can't you just rely on the game database here?

I used the database as a reference, but there are a few differences. For example, I wouldn't consider Ebivision's Pac-Man to be a homebrew release since AFAIK only one copy was made. The database also categorizes hardware like the Cuttle Cart and Krokodile cart as homebrews. The (H) rating makes the most sense, but I consider a homebrew to be the software.

 

Most importantly, the database is not clear on whether certain older titles like Yatzee were ever published.

That is the reason why I asked in the first place. The AA list is pretty good but it doesn't say whether the Homebrew/hack was ever released on cartridge. I just want to be able to put closure on the question

It'd probably be easier if you set some kind of parameters. For example, there was a game called Connect the Dots created by Pitfall Harry that found its way onto a total of two carts.

Were all homebrew authors who's games were sold through Hozer given royalties?

 

What about homebrewers and hackers who sold limited runs themselves? They didn't actually see royalties in some instances.

So okay lets simplify things. I would argue that if it was released even in only one cartridge then it becomes a viable collectors piece. I understand about the Hozer angle and yes I have heard others say that Albert at Atari Age could put any hack or rom into a cart if you asked him too and contributed to AA so lets group all the homebrews/hacks that were released in cartridge form and actually exist, together in one list. Yes I also know that I am probably asking the impossible if I expect to collect them all but as I have nothing better to do with my life why not take up the challenge

Are you also looking at hacks, special repro runs (like CPU's Save Our Ship and the Halloween/TCM boxed limited numbered double ender), application files and demos like Post It Note and Red Box?

Yes I am for with the new title and lable they count as seperate carts in my view. Added to his as you have already stated the scree is different which all adds up. By the way could anyone tell me what exactly was different about the QB holiday cart edition as information seems to be a little slim

It was essentially a very nice graphics hack of Qb to give the game a Christmas theme. The colors and graphics were changed from the original. To quote the description from the store,

 

This new version of Qb includes updated graphics sporting a holiday theme, a new label designed by Dave Exton (who also created the Qb label gracing copies of the game sold through the AtariAge Store, as well as last year's Holiday GreetingCart label), and a Qb Holiday Cart manual.

You can get some interesting results when you look for "publisher" for Homebrews. I mean, "AtariAge" has been the primary manufacturer of FlapPing/JoustPong, though technically it's an "Alien Bill Production"

I agree with you about the challenge. When you want to include everything that was ever put on a cartridge you are adding a whole new level of ambition. Remember that anyone with the right equipment can make a cartridge these days. Anyone without the equipment can hire Albert or others. There are known limited release homebrews like Pitfall Harry's Connect the Dots. There could also be privately made cartridges that only one person knows about. Especially with Batari Basic, it's pretty easy for someone to make their own homebrew.

 

That is why I limited my list to carts offered to the general public. But you are free to make a list your own way.

 

Including hacks and repros? Well again, you're free to do so, but would it be a homebrew list anymore?

Good question. I guess that I would have to attempt two lists, one of hacks one of homebrews. Yes I understand the magnitude of the problem but the way I see it if only one person knows of it then it cannot go on the list unless that person is me Seriously though I am looking for any home brew that was released on Ebay or sites that sold it, no matter how limited the run. One offs are fine but only if released say in a competition or offered for sale to the general public. That should make things easier dont you think
