mos6507 #1 Posted April 21, 2002 To PAL users, what's your top 10 list of NTSC-only games you'd like to see in PAL format? To NTSC users, what's your top 10 list of PAL-only games you'd like to see in NTSC format? There are still a good number left that can be converted to the other format. Include finished prototypes in the list if you want (i.e. Save Mary).
+Kaboomer #2 Posted April 21, 2002 For NTSC (From PAL) I'd like to see Quest for Quintanaroo, KLAX, Dumbo, Fatal Run to start with....I'm sure there are many more and I'll have to think of some more and re-post....

NTSC versions of Klax and Quest for Quintaroo (Sunrise) already exist. Dumbo seems to be the same story as RS Basketball. The dump displays 286 lines, which is somewhere in the middle between NTSC and PAL. Can somebody tell me the correct colors? Then the conversion could be done very quickly. Well, Fatal Run is a huge 32k ROM, I don't think I want to do that. But I know Cybergoth is a big fan of this game, perhaps he will help here?

Sidenote: Shouldn't it be possible to write a *.BAT, which automatically cuts larger BINs into 4K chunks and disassembles all of them?...) MattyXB #6 Posted April 22, 2002 From NTSC to PAL here some: All they are only avaible as NTSC. But the list is to long. Maybe some Prototypes like Lord of the Rings and Garfield. And Dragonfire Beta version. And all very Rare game like SwordQuest WaterWorld.

Hm, LOTR ok, unfinished protypes like Garfield probably not (makes no sense to me). And why should I convert beta versions of games where final versions exist??? And do you really want to play Waterworld?

Garfield is a great game I think. And Dragonfire beta version is totally diffrent from the finish version. But its your choise. WaterWorld was only a game that I think in the moment, but is not so importend if you don't like it.
Osmeroid #9 Posted April 22, 2002 Hmm, I can think of a few.... 1. Dolphin (I have this and the ocean is red!) 2. Quadrun 3. Crazy Climber 4. Montezuma's Revenge 5. Track & Field 6. Krull 7. Video Cube 8. Gremlins 9. Fathom 10. Strawberry Shortcake (J/K!) There are a few others that were NTSC releases, such as Taz, Crackpots and RS Baseball but all of these titles appear to work equally as well on PAL - no bizzare colours, unlike Dolphin & the Dread Sea of Blood WA-HAHAHAAARGH!!! MattyXB #10 Posted April 22, 2002 Red????? I have think by mine it was green. But red? Must look in some hours again what color has mine. But I think it was green.

What does J/K mean? Taz is quite identical to Asterix and Crack Pots exists as Boom Bang

Split the HES file into four 4K (=4096 bytes) files. Then edit the last 4 bytes of file #2 with a hex editor from F0 FF F0 FF into 00 F0 00 F0 and you got Dolphin (PAL). Any more Multi PAKs worth hacking? [ 04-22-2002: Message edited by: Thomas Jentzsch ]
Osmeroid #15 Posted April 22, 2002 Forgot one - Cosmic Commuter, although that shouldn't cause too many problems (plenty of black). Do you find that what should be green turns out a sort of blue?

rasty #18 Posted April 22, 2002 Personally, I'd love to see (read: play): Frankenstain's Monster Cakewalk Bump'n'Jump Sea Hawk Cat Trax This Planet Sucks Crazy Climber Survival Island converted from NTSC to PAL, but your mileage may vary Sorry if some should turn out to exist already ...! But there are no ROMs from Frankenstein's Monster or Cakewalk out. Maybe someone can dump them. I think I own Cakewalk, but I am not shure if this is PAL or NTSC. And Frankenstein's Monster is very Rare in PAL, that I own only a NTSC version. And I can't dump ROMs. And Survival Island exist as PAL ROM.

jahfish #22 Posted April 22, 2002 well, we euro-collectors don't really care about the difference, since ntsc signals can be used without too much problems here, plus a lot of people use their VCR to convert the signal ..... now if us-collectors would force that a little more, and f.e. get a ntsc-pal adaptor .... then the topic gets useless .... i always wonder, why us-collectors have such a problem to adapt to the global collecting community .... look, i have two obelix pal-variations, so why should i bother getting a third ntsc version that costs more than these two together .... mission impossible only works as PAL, so why spend more for the buggy ntsc version .... and there's many more example why collecting both systems makes sence ..... besides that, there were a whole bunch of games designed to work on both systems ... saying "pal carts always roll & don't function in usa" is a cheap excuse ..... and makes lots of work for thomas, instead of giving him enough time to provide us with a fresh new game .... mos6507 #24 Posted April 23, 2002 I think a related issue is the completness of AtariAge's ROM database. If there are a lot of games that do have ROM images floating around but just don't happen to be in the database, we should compile this list and get the ROM images added to the database. That way it will be easy to determine which games are and aren't available in NTSC or PAL. [ 04-22-2002: Message edited by: Glenn Saunders ]
