Desert Falcon?

What's up with this game on the XL/XE's? Does Atari not know how to implement diagonal scrolling?!?!? There's nothing wrong with the 7800 version. This is awful!

Even worse is trying to figure out your final score - the game ends and goes to demo mode real quick and never shows your final score again :(

Agreed. Nothing compares to the 7800 version.

Well, it's not like the XL/XE's can't do smooth diagonal scrolling (take Blue Max for instance). Were they in such a hurry to get it done, or what? I can't imagine that they would look at this game before sending it out for production, and think that everything was fine. Were they on drugs? It seems like you would have to be on drugs to actually play it. This can be safely filed under the "headache-ware" section of the Atari library.

Afaik,

the programmer(s) did send a lot of (alpha, beta, ...) versions and a lot of updates to Atari. Alas, Atari was so stupid to burn the wrong version. When the programmer told them, the ROMs were already burned, so Atari did not care anymore... -Andreas.

Interesting, BTW is the "right" version floating somewhere around?

I think what krupkaj means by the "right" version, is one that has proper diagonal scrolling.

The 7800 version was started by Warner no?

And the XL/XE version was quickly and cheaply converted by Jack no?

If this is the case, XL/XE Desert Falcon suffers from the same problem as 7800 Karateka: Jack too cheap to pay people to get it right.
