Will GameBoy Carts play in GameGear?

Recommended Posts

Simply nope. Game Gear is by Sega. Gameboy is by Nintendo. And before Sega dropped out of hardware development for good, Sega used to create game consoles to compete with (mostly) Nintendo's systems.

It is now known within my wifes family that I am a retro-gamer. One of my brother-in-laws has some old game boys and his step-son has Game Gear. My response was simply the same as the above - handhelds made by two different companies. Anyway, I told them that I'd ask anyway because, hey, you never know -

The Game Gear and the SMS are the same hardware. You do need a

converter (obviously) to plug in the carts.

Actually, the Game Gear is a bit fancier in the graphics department.

So while SMS games work on the GameGear(excepting ones that need peripherals other than the GameGear's single gamepad), no GameGear games work on the SMS.

...

Well, there is one that'd work, but it's actually a Master System ROM mounted to a GameGear board that shorts the system-detect line just as a Master System adapter would.

that makes no fricking sense, if your brother has the games and his own kid has the system, didn't they try to put the game in the system??????

I hear the CD-i can handle some of them too. :D

But only the select ones the XBox 360 can play. :ponder:

Don't you need a unit with the MPEG-1 card to play Xbox 360 games? :)

Also, i've heard that Neo*Geo AES modules will work in a Game Gear. :D

Actually, you need the prototype MPEG2 cart for most of them.
